Basically it says that Police arrested Moin Khan at his home after his wife reported him for beating her up/abusing her - and that when they arrived to arrest him, he was drunk.

Thats my understanding of the article.

basically what the article initially says is that Moin Khan has been arrested for drinking alcohol, then also quotes his wife saying that she was physically abused by Moin while the latter was drunk. Police has not conducted a medical exam yet to see if he has consumed alcohol. What seems kind of ironic to me is that the article seems to be emphasizing his drinking alcohol over his beating up his wife, and it seems like the main offense here is not spousal abuse but intoxication.
On an unrelated note, does this mean Moin Khan is not going to play the WC?

An argument may be a family dispute - wife beating goes beyond that.

good point. somehow drinking is worse than beating someone up.

I also like how no medical tests have been done but the newspaper asserts that he was indeed drunk.

I agree and stand corrected.

my initial post - though it obviously didn't come out right - was a response to the newspaper's tabloidish story about him being drunk than anything else.

Sadly, his wife probably faced more harrassment from the Police than her allegedly drunk & abusive husband.

Quite a lot of 'stars' in Pak are often reported to be drunk - yet nothing ever happens, so I assume Mr Khan will be allright.

Is drinking (alcohol) illegal in Pakistan? If so, will he get jail time. He may not get a jail time
for wife beating becasue usually in such cases in our culture the wife forgives the husband.
Has anyone seen the movie, my wife's murder? What if the wife was like that?

we truly have to make this a cricket forum. this guy is finished. he has nothing to do with cricket. this has become a gossip loving forum. which dwells on the sadistic side of human life. Screw it all lets get back to the cricketing talk that once made the forum so great. all we talk about is racism, egoism and so on.

Well I am sure this has not happened for the first time (spouse abusal). In our culture esp in pakistan if a woman takes such a step is HUGE. Trust me things have to be way out of hand before she took such action. Sadly eventhough we are muslim country but women don't have right to step up to such spous abusal. It has to be going on for a while and finally she took action. Must be a courageous woman to take a stand. I hope Moin pays for his action.

No other paper has given this news: Even The News in English, which is affiliated with Jang, has given this news report...

I met and spent about eight hours with Moin Khan last year in Texas: I did not see any such thing that Moin drinks...

May be his wife out of rage has alleged that he is drunk...

However if he has lifted hand on his wife, that is not appropriate...

I can't imagine Moin doing this, but then Satan is always with us...

nah...puffing makes you chilled out not violent.

Now we don't know how reliable this news is but if it is true then it is very sad news. I was always a fan of Moin but I am no fan of wife or woman beaters. They are amongst the lowest of the low in my opinion (only above rapists, murderers and paedophiles). Absolute scum.

If he wants to drink then fine but if he can't handle his drink (which may be the case of he was drunk when he allegedly beat up his wife) then he should stay clear for the good of himself and his family.

Doesn't that depend on what type it is?

What do you mean "ahem , apparently"? Are you a puffer? If so, you would know better than most if Moin puffs as well. I've heard that Shoaib and a few other players have tried it.

It's been sometime since Moin lost his place in the team.
He is in good form and probably believes he deserves the
spot ahead of Kamran Akmal, a point which is debatable.

He will not be the first guy who turns to the bottle in a
rough patch. He is probably not the most cheerful guy
to be around these days either. His wife will inevitably
get the brunt of his grousing. I feel for both of them.

Moin Khan's actions are a disgrace. apparently she phoned a police help line and they came and arrested him. very bad. Moin got married before the 1992 World Cup in a love marriage! He has a 15 yr old son.

I saw Moin and his wife getting off the team bus at Hove in 1992 during a tour match. She looked very mod in a shortish skirt wid dark tights but by 1999 she was quite fat

KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Moin Khan was arrested by the Darakhshan police late Monday night after his wife Tasleem alias Shama Seher made a phone call to Madadgar 15, complaining that he had beaten her.

According to Town Police Officer (TPO) ASP Azad Khan, the police received a phone call from Seher after midnight. A police team visiting the house found Seher standing outside and Moin Khan screaming at her from within. After a struggle, Moin Khan was taken in preventive detention under Section 151 of the CrPC, the TPO said. The couple was taken to the Darakhshan police station from where Moin was taken to JPMC for a medical examination. Seher was also taken to JPMC for a medical examination later on.

“If injuries are reported by the doctors examining her or a blood test confirms that he was intoxicated, the law will take its course,” said the TPO. Darakhshan SHO Inspector Zia Rizvi told Daily Times that this was a domestic matter, “but we brought it on to the court record”. Moin was produced in a local court and was granted bail.

Seher told Daily Times that Moin had been disturbed for three days. “This isn’t something new, it’s been like this for a while,” she added. “He accused me of being involved with his friends. I asked why he was beating me and he told me that he hated the look of my face. He said, ‘Tum apnay gireban me jhanko, apni shakal dekho, apna character dekho’ ... There’s no special reason. Things were normal but I don’t know what had happened as recently he started to get harsh after drinking. I think that Moin still thinks of himself as a young star,” Seher, a showbiz person herself, said. “Cricketers have the same life ... (Another Karachi cricketer’s) wife recently separated and got custody of the children. Complaints remain as (many) cricketers treat their wives like this. Woh apnay beewiyon ke sath is tarha ka rawaiya rakhtay hain ... Is tarha kay rawaiye mein kon sath reh sakta he? The problem with (some) cricketers is that they are getting better options outside the house. Unhain ghar ki murghi daal barabar lagti he.”

Seher said that Moin, accompanied by a friend, had come home after being released on bail, to collect his belongings. Moin was not available for comment and his brother Faheem said that he couldn’t reach him either. The couple has three children, Fatima (3), Azam (8) and Awais (12).

He has also captained the Pakistani side. He was born in Rawalpindi, Punjab. He made his international debut against West Indies cricket team at Multan. He has taken over 100 catches in Test cricket. He has scored over 3,000 ODI runs and taken over 200 catches in ODI cricket. He is known as the best wicketkeeper of all time and has earned the nickname "Tiger". He is the only cricketer to coin a name for a cricketing delivery. In the mid 1990's he coined the mystery delivery of Saqlain Mushtaq that went from leg to off as the Doosra. It means the "other one" in Urdu. He had record for most dismissals behind the wicket at one time. He is no longer part of the national side. Even though Moin Khan has been dropped from the national side he is still playing first class cricket. In 2005 Moin played in the ABN Amro 20-20 cup as the captain of the Karachi Zebras. During the series Moin Khan set a new record by scoring the first century in a 20-20 match

Well it says on cricinfo that he has been released on bail and he will be discussing things with elders in his family to discuss the next course of action which will most probably be kicking his wife out of the house
