Fawad Alam for Pakistan!
This guy has all the shots and is playing really well in domestic cricket. Surely its time for his inclusion, hes young and most importantly, hes miles better than the likes of Farhat and Hameed.

But can he open the inning cause i though that he plays in the middle order.

But he isn't an opener, that is what is working against his favour at the moment. The middle order in both ODI and Test cricket is not really that much of a problem, its the opening slots.

But if we look at it from another angle they can prepare him for th opening slot.......... Many players and many teams have done that, so it wont be any thing new.

Its not as easy as it sounds, he has been facing the old ball for most of his first class career.

Players like Majid Khan, Mansoor Akhtar, Mohsin Hasan Khan, Rameez Raja and Saeed Anwar all changed into excellent openers, once they saw that that was the only place they had in the team...

In the Twenty20 games, Alam showed that hes more than capable of taking advantage of powerplays. hes a sweet striker of the ball and he bats in the top order in limited overs cricket. should definately feature in one dayers post wc.

No doubt this guy will some day play for his country, he notched up an impressive 103 today (7/03/07) for Karachi harbour.
Looks a good prospect for the future Last edited by waqar-uk; 8th February 2007 at 15:22. |

Shahid Yousuf has hardly done anything of note in last couple of seasons. Fawad Alam is by far the best young player we have and Afaq Raheem has been consistent as well but surprised to see Shahid not performing wel at all in recent times.

One question: Has anyone actually seen him play in more than a game and that does not include 20/20 games?
If not, you guys need to watch him play before asking him to play for Pakistan! Also, I still have those videos from his U19 days (Semi Final and Final) and although he looked alright at that level...he didn't look like a proper batsman...more like a bits and pieces player

New Zealand Invitation XI v Pakistanis. Played at Queenstown Events Centre. 18,19,20 November 2009 (3-day match)
So Fawad Alam top scores in the Pakistan Innings, with 77 runs including 10 boundaries... Ahead of Manzoor, Butt, Farhat, Yousef and Umar Akmal. Well done to you lad...! Further evidence if indeed it was needed that you should have been playing in all three formats for Pakistan, quite some time ago... and are the batting strength of Pakistan along with Umar Akmal ahead of the 'Seniors'. |

Alam shows glimpse of class for painstaking Pakistan
NZPA - November 19, 2009, 8:17 pm Alam shows glimpse of class for painstaking Pakistan NZPA © A rising Pakistani batting star made his mark before next week's test series against New Zealand in the tour opener at Queenstown today, but rival opener Craig Cumming's hopes of a recall dimmed with a second failure for an Invitation 11. Fawad Alam showed the right temperament and application to suggest he in already in nick for the first test starting at Dunedin's University Oval on Tuesday. Alam, who made 168 on debut against Sri Lanka in July, topscored with 77 on the second day of the three-day game as Pakistan overhauled the home side's 234 by compiling 286 on a pitch that continues to encourage the quicks with bounce and carry. http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/cricket/n...aking-pakistan |

He looked okay, confident, he would have got on to get his ton, just got out to a beautiful delivery, it clipped his glove, he was shocked himself...

Never really looked in at anytime today but he's a gritty player who battled it out before a good ball from a fine bowler got him.

Regardless of his weak technique and walking around during delivery, I would always want a player like him in our team. He likes to settle down and values his wicket, unike others. He was actually playing well until that ripper got him. We shouldn't completely blame him, Bond should share the blame for bowling ferociously well in early overs.

Fawad looked totally out of touch today. He has a few weaknesses he should improve like stop moving at the crease and keep his head still on the ball after the ball is delivered.

Moving at the moment of delivery is NOT a technical deficiency. We know that Chanderpaul does it and he has had a successful batting career. At this level it is about your mental strength and your ability to adapt to the new conditions. Fawad needs to be a given a sustained run with the team so that he gains the confidence that is required to succeed at this level.
