Malik vs Yuvraj

Who's a better player in the one day format?? both bat in similar positions these days ie 5 or 6. who would you rather have in your team to guide you through to victory in a pressure situation? iv noticed that commentators seem to rate yuvraj very highly compared to malik. you don't hear commentators rating malik the way they rate yuvraj.

Personally i think both are very good players, however malik is underated by commentators. Malik has the potential to be a world class player and i have full confidence in him.

Who's a better player??

For me both are equally valuable in ODI format. Both are excellent fielders, they provide 5th bowler option and batting wise they offer different buit equally valuable talents. e.g. Malik
is more reliable (compared to Yuvraj) but Yuvraj is more destructive (comapred to Malik).
However, on difficult pitches and tours Yuvraj is no doubt a better bet.

They completely different players. Malik started as spinner and can easily bowl 10 containg overs and bat in any position. Youraj is a middle order batsman, who as been probably their best one day batsman of late and can bowl but not regular.

Malik in an allrounder and Youraj is a middle order batsman. They both have been doing good job for their countries. Not to forget both ar top fielders, in thsi department youraj is ahead of malik.

Overall I would pick Malik because he gives me option of bowling. I'

Yuvraj is a proper batsman, he is quite stylish as compared to Malik and a better overall player but Malik's figures are almost as good as Yuvraj which shows that he worked really hard to become a proper batsman from just a bowling all rounder (low order slogger).

Yuvraj (163 games)has scored 4412 runs at 35.30 with 7 100's (HS 139) and 26 50's.
Malik (134 games) has scored 3432 runs at 33.65 with 5 100's (HS 143) and 20 50's.

Yuvraj has done much better than Malik outside subcontinent otherwise there is not much difference between the two as far as the figures are concerned.

I think Yuvraj is an under achiever whereas Malik has done better than what was expected of him with bat.

care to explain why ?? apart from the fact that he is pakistani ofcourse

What sorta comparison is this ?? Yuvi is one of the best batsmen out there at the moment ... His scintillating form was interrupted by an untimely injury ... otherwise, he surely would have reached the top of the table in the batsmen's category ... In addition, he is a great finisher ... Above all - his strokeplay and footwork is way above malik's ...

I am not undermining malik here ... in many of posts, i have mentioned how hardworking and dedicated malik is ... he is one of those who maximises his limited skills ... a bit similar to collingwood ... on the other hand yuvraj is a talented cricketer who has a touch of class to his batting ...

How about we compare the recent form ... coz yuvi has changed a lot since chappell took over ...

Last 25 Matches :

Yuvraj has scored 936 runs with 2 centuries and 6 half centuries with a batting average of 55 and has taken 8 wickets at a bowling avg. of 30 ... Also has 8 catches to his credentials ...

Malik has scored 608 runs at an average of 32 with 1 century and 2 half centuries and has taken 12 wickets at an average of 34 and has 9 catches ...

Clearly - yuvraj is the winner ... In addition, Yuvraj is one of the best fielders in the world ...

agree with waseem - yuvraj is the under-achiever whne you look at his stats & career to date - much better is expected from him - therefore in my book he's the better player

Yuvraj by a mile and and a half.
I see Yuvraj as one of the best middle order bats in the world. His contributions in the field( which are excellent) and the ball( which are more than adequate) are a big plus. Probably one of India's key players in the super 8 matches.

Unfair to compare the two as Yuvraj is a pure batsman who can roll him arm over at times, while Malik was originally a bowler who has worked extremely hard as a batsman and that is why he is a crucial part of our ODI team, at the moment.

If given a choice between Yuvraj and Malik purely based on thier batting, I'd have to choose Yuvraj, while Malik is a better bowler. As for fielding, they are both very good fielders. Yuvraj, though, tends to make it look hard and that is why he looks so impressive at times. I have noticed that for a while now.

Overall, I'd take Yuvraj over Malik but just by a tiny little bit.

That is true. Having said that, Yuvraj for the best part of his career has been underperforming (he finally woke up towards the end of 2005, and he was devastating), while Malik if anything (surprising for a Pakistani, I know) has been an overachiever of sorts

Well, I don't fully agree that Yuvraj underperformed through the better part of his career.
Infact, that has something to do with the batting heirarchy in Indian cricket. Generally new batsmen in India start at lower order with limited opportunities and responsibility and than
work their way up. Many good batsmen, have fallen though the cracks in this system. To
Yuvraj's credit he was able to atleast sustain and promote himself in recent years.
