Irish captain tells Pakistan to bring it on

KINGSTON, Jamaica: Hours after forcing a thrilling tie against Zimbabwe, Irish captain Trent Johnston declared his team would go all out for an upset against Pakistan in Saturday’s World Cup Group D match here at the Sabina Park today (Saturday), writes Khalid Hussain.

The strapping Australia-born fast bowler said that he is fully aware Pakistan are a top class team but was quick to add that his team were ready to fight it out.

“My boys are ready to give a 120 percent against Pakistan and I’m sure we will give them a real tough time,” said the 32-year-old who got accolades from experts after guiding Ireland to a sensational tie against Zimbabwe here on Thursday.

Making their World Cup debut, Ireland defended 221 against Zimbabwe and managed to earn a point from the match, a result that Johnston believes has lifted his team’s morale. “My players are raring to go against Pakistan,” he said.

Johnston said that he saw Pakistan’s 54-run defeat against the West Indies earlier this week adding that Inzamam-ul-Haq’s men look vulnerable.

“They seem to have a few problems which we can exploit but I must say that to have any chance against Pakistan we will have get out there and give it everything that we’ve got. We will have to play out of our skins, and give it 120 per cent,” he explained. He said that Ireland have beaten the West Indies and his team can do achieve a similar result against Pakistan.

I think the Irish are getting a bit big for their boots and I cannot believe that people actually think that they can beat us.

Every captain says such things on the eve of the match. Even Scot and Dutch captains vowed to surprise Aussies and SA, respectively.

Only if you guys had shoib and asif, stumps would be flying. With only
one good bowler to face irish are fancying their chances. I still think it
will be a one sided game with Sami (if selected) doing some damage.

Some of these minnows are getting too ahead of themselves. They tied Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe!! Who are currently the second of third worst team in the WC after the likes of Bermuda and Netherlands.

Its the Mental Fragilty of current Pakistan Team that the Irish are targeting. Pakistan are under the pump since last month, lost their key Players and more so lost key match against the WI . Lot riding on this match whereas Irish have nothing to lose. Just imagine the Pressure Pakistan team will be under for this Knock out game.

I believe Pakistan will win easily as they Should.

The Luck of the Irish.....will not hold off Pakistan...

Inzi should use this opportunity to open the innings.

Nothing to worry about - the only reason they came to the stadium was to be afraid...very afraid

Ireland might win over Pakistan..
THis is gonna be a tough game..
Have never been such worried when ever PAkitan have played a nontest playing team, but this time, Ireland might beat Pakistan.
Bagladesh did it against PAKistan in 99 wc.

It is very good for the game, whats wrong with ireland being bouyed? They certainly gave a credible performance in the matches played so far. They recognised that pakistan are in fact having problems and are under pressure. Where as Ireland are under no pressure.

If pak lose the mental game then it is all over. But everyone EXPECTS PAK TO WIN.....

NO BIG DEAL.......however an upset welll this is what the neutrals are hoping for

Wait, he didn't actually tell Pakistan to bring it on in any of his quotes. All hes saying is that they'll need to play extraordinarily to win and that his players are raring to go. Thats hardly being confident or cocky is it?

CHADDA uncle u are a chaddy. I just think that Ireland have a chance to win against Pakistan... It wud be fun to watch if they win against Pakistan, after all the Pakistani team loves to be in controversities. So why not loss a match against Ireland.. When a team with players like Shoaib, Waqar and Wasim Akram can loss to Bangladesh after beating Australia, why cant this team not loss to Ireland..

Take it easy afterall it is just a game, Pakistan arent gonna win the world cup, so why not play bad a loss to Ireland.

i think he is to overconfident upsets are very rare to see they dont happen all the time there may be a upset for somepeople if gul gets like 10 wickets or imran nazir breaking the most 6s in a innings by himself anything can happen in cricket all im saying is he needs to know pak have beaten australia, india, west indies, and england with most of the players in this team so they need to think again

DONT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF PAK!!
DEMOLITION IN A HOUR SO
