Something Pakistan's bowlers can learn from McGrath

As stated by Steve Waugh in the Sydney daily Telegraph recalling some interesting facts about Mc Grath.

Quote:
Has a fully equipped gym at his home so he can religiously maintain his strict regimen on his weights that give him a deceptively strong upper body strength that helps his pace and stamina when bowling.
Contrast this with the attitude of not just Pakistani players but from all account many Indian ones too towards keeping fit for their job.

Yeah they can. Work-out equipment or a gym is not that expensive in Pakistan. On top the players make boat-loead of money these days.

OURs ARE 11 politicians and not players. they are most of the time thinking about PR campaigns to become captain or something else. they can never do it. for having such professionalism some education is also required and ours are illetrate. some of them lack class and upbringing.

i hope some of you wont like this but thats the case.

I think our bowlers are a different breed truthteller. Asif, Gul etc. all rely on momentum and fluidity of action rather than a strong upper body. I think having a stronger upper body may just have an adverse effect.

but I agree that a greater committment to stamina and general fitness is required. lifting weights at home...I'm not so sure thats the way to go.

although if you are talking about a treadmill that can certainly help.

The particular set of exercises chosen can easily be tailored to this or that. What struck me was the assiduous regularity of sticking to the chosen regime.

I suppose our bowlers too can claim to be sticking to their regime assiduously... Halwa Puri for breakfast, Biryani for lunch a stroll in the park to stretch those muscles in the evening!

I think chased by rabid dogs in public parks adds to the cardio bit.
