I am just shocked! I heard he had to return home but I didn't realize it was this bad. They must end the McMahon dead angle now.....two deaths in the past week of two legendary stars.

Rest in Peace Benoit.

Amir, do you mean that you appreciate her accomplishments 'physcially' or do you really appreciate her wrestling.

if i recall correctly, it was moolah who paved the way for female wrestlers, sorry showgirls. thats what they are these days.

Yes it was Moolah along with Sherry. She carried it on even when she became a manager and did great things as a manager. A manager adds to the drama....which makes it fake and makes it wrestling entertainment.

And I do not find her all that attractive to your first comment.

Chris Benoit Dead.

STAMFORD, Conn., June 25, 2007 – World Wrestling Entertainment was informed today by authorities in Fayetteville County, Ga., that WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and his son were found dead in their home. Authorities are investigating, but no other details are available at this time.

Instead of its announced programming for tonight on USA Network, WWE will air a three-hour tribute to Chris Benoit.

Chris was beloved among his fellow Superstars, and was a favorite among WWE fans for his unbelievable athleticism and wrestling ability. He always took great pride in his performance, and always showed respect for the business he loved, for his peers and towards his fans. This is a terrible tragedy and an unbearable loss.

WWE extends its sincere condolences and prayers to the Benoit family and loved ones in this time of tragedy.

WWE legend Chris Benoit, the greatest worker of his generation, has died at the age of 40.

In circumstances still currently unknown, the Canadian superstar's wife and family were also found dead at their home in Atlanta.

The tragedy follows the early deaths of Chris's best pal Eddie Guerrero, Owen Hart, British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith, Sensational Sherri and many other wrestling stars.

A statement on WWE.com said: "World Wrestling Entertainment is deeply saddened to report that Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home.

"There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family’s relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy."

Chris will always have a place in the heart of wrestling fans worldwide thanks to his classic nmatches in Japan, ECW, WCW, and especially the WWE.

His hug with Eddie at WrestleMania XX was one of wrestling's most memorable moments - and will now never, ever be forgotten.

could be carbon monoxide, suicide pact or contract killings( my guesses)...

RIP Chirs.

I was shocked when I heard this, still can't believe it's really true. Out of the current crop of wrestlers, Benoit was my favourite. He let his work do the talking, and was a real old school entertainer.

Sheriff's department in Atlanta is said to believe that Benoit killed his wife on Saturday, his son on Sunday, and himself on Monday.

Truly unbelievable.

Fayette County, Georgia police are investigating Benoit's house following the discovery of the bodies. Lieutenant Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department reported to ABC News that sheriffs entered his home on a "welfare check" after missing several appointments, leading to concerns.[85] Pope also stated the police are not searching for any suspects outside of the house, as the instruments of death were located at scene of the crime.[86]

The same day Detective Bo Turner of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department told television station WAGA-TV that the case was being treated as a murder-suicide, and the station reported that investigators believe that Benoit murdered his wife and son over the weekend and commited suicide sometime on Monday. WWE's Benoit is found dead

WRESTLING legend Chris Benoit and his family have been found dead in their home in Atlanta, Georgia.

The star, renowned as the greatest in-ring grappler of his generation, had just turned 40.

Chris, his wife Nancy and their son Daniel were all discovered by Atlanta police.

It is believed his two other children were in Canada, where Benoit was born and trained as a wrestler.

The tragedy follows the early deaths of Chris's best pal Eddie Guerrero, Owen Hart, British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith, Sensational Sherri and many other wrestling stars.

According to WWE.com the deaths of the superstar, his wife and son were the result of a 'double murder-suicide' but further details had not yet been released.

The site went on to say: "World Wrestling Entertainment is deeply saddened to report that Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home.

"There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family’s relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy."

Chris will always have a place in the heart of wrestling fans worldwide thanks to his classic matches in Japan, ECW, WCW, and especially the WWE.

His hug with Eddie at WrestleMania XX was one of wrestling's most memorable moments - and will now never, ever be forgotten.

What can cause man to possibly kill his own and then himself in the space of 3 days, what must be going through somebody's mind to pull this off.

Chris Benoit, was a truly great wrestler, in the same mould of Bret Hart yet, if we believe what the sheriff's are saying, then Chris must have had a few screws loose. I am shocked, sad, disappointed and afraid because it is hard to believe all at the same time because of this tragic news.

The greatest technical wrestler I saw, apart from Bret Hart. Very enjoyable to watch, he was a real entertainer. I have no idea what must have been going through his mind and soul - killing your family and committing suicide? Wow.

Obviously, he murdered his wife and his son and then thought. "Oh s***, I'm not going to get away with this. What have I done!?! I'll be get life in prison!"
So then he decided to kill himself so he didn't have to have to be sent to jail.

Jayed, firstly, stop acting like a f'ing 12 year old pr*ck in a thread where actual deaths are being discussed. One more stupid comment from you in here about someone's death, and I'll make sure you get banned for a good period of time.

Secondly, I did not have a good feeling about this tasteless McMahon death angle from the outset. Look what we have seen in just the past two weeks; the deaths of both Sherri Martel and Chris Benoit. I just had a really uneasy feeling towards this stupid angle, and I really hope they never even attempt such storylines again.

Chris Benoit! What a legend he was in the ring. Police reports are indicating that he probably killed his family before taking his own life. This would completely tarnish his legacy I'm afraid, but one cannot deny that he was the best Canadian wrestler of the modern era and a certain future Hall-of-Famer. May he and his family rest in peace.

To be honest, that's what my first guess would be too about why all this happened. But perhaps he had some other things going wrong in his life (he recently lost his best friend Eddie Gurerro) and things just got worse from there.

The saddest part about this is that Benoit leaves behind two other children, an older daughter and another older son. They'll be left to wonder why on earth their father, who on all accounts was a very good person, would do something like this.

And the_game, you make a great point about Benoit's legacy possibly getting tarnished because of this. Benoit didn't deserve this.

BTW - thanks for adding the article Sean. I was stunned after hearing that, and didn't add any source.

Terrible news. Like most others here I was a big fan of his - fantastic in ring ability and until now seemed like a good guy too. Like Toony said - Im almost hoping it was a murder as so it doesnt tarnish his reputation which until now was quite stellar.

Anyway, RIP Benoit and family

Oh, sorry. Here it is. http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&ct...gnu73NnkCfSs7g

Sad to hear this news. Apparently police are saying he killed his wife and son and then committed suicide. So I'll save the RIP for when i know the full details.

Has anyone checked out the site recently?! There claiming he murdered his wife and son then committed suicide! Scary thoughts, but after the Bob Woolmer saga itz worth waiting until a conclusive investigation has been completed.

The best wrestler among the current lot, the only one, the rest being hyped-up showmen. I liked the Wolverine's pure professionalism. The last one to carry on the great tradition of Bret Hart and Davey Boy Smith (my all time favorite). It sounds like a nightmare as Benoit was marketed as a very clean and honest family man, which he really was. I remember how he once broke that baldy Smack Down chairman's finger for saying that he paid Benoit's wages which fed his family. His response was 'My family' and he grabbed the finger which was pionting at him and broke it. Very very sad indeed. I hope this is a hoax, I really do.

Update from Rajahwwf.com

According a report by the Associated Press, Chris Benoit is believed to have strangled his wife Nancy and smothered their son Daniel, before hanging himself, according to a source very close to the investigation.

Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard told The Associated Press that authorities are currently investigating what role, if any, that steroids may have played in the incident.

Thanks to Mike Johnson & PWInsider.com for help compiling the facts of this report.

On pure professionalism and Wrestling ability he was pound for pound the greatest technical wrestler to ever step in a WWE/WCW/ECW ring.

Il always remember his brilliant triple holding suplex he use to pull off in the ring.

The best technical wrestlers? Benoit?
Never.
Possibly the one with the most willl to win, but Dean Malenko is the most gifted technical wrestler. Hitman Hart second.

I have a theory. This has been circulating.
Benoit was ripped to the pulp, 'ripped like that' is steroids.
Possibly, he was having a row with his wife and he was on the influence of drugs etc..or drinking..and BAM...

He died, but our perceptions of him cannot be lovy dovy as it is. Yes he is dead ,but what will we remember him for? The fact that he 'murdered' his family will stick to me. I don't wanna overpraise him too much for that.

Keep it in context, you don't know the motive, yet you are unfairly blaming Benoit completely for this. For all we know, concussions that he suffered really screwed him up (study says more than 2 concussions in a lifetime will triple a persons risk of suicide). In that case, it isn't really his fault, is it?

One moment shouldn't define a lifetime. By accounts of other wrestlers, Benoit was a good guy.

Kurt Angle once said if he could bring anyone from WWE to TNA with him, it'd be Benoit. Surely that must say something about how highly Benoit was thought of by people who knew him more than you.

Show some respect.

Canadian pro wrestling legend Chris Benoit strangled his wife, suffocated his 7-year-old son and placed a Bible next to their bodies before hanging himself by the pulley of a weightlifting machine, authorities said today.

Autopsies showed all three died of asphyxiation, Pope said.

Benoit’s wife, Nancy, was killed Friday in an upstairs family room, her feet and wrists were bound and there was blood under her head, indicating a possible struggle, Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard said.

The son, Daniel, was likely killed late Saturday or early Sunday, the body found in his bed, Ballard said.

Benoit apparently killed himself several hours and as long as a day later, Ballard said. Benoit was found in a downstairs weight room, his body found hanging from the pulley of a piece of exercise equipment.

Quite sad, one can only wonder what on earth was going through his mind at the time.

Well here is the latest update on all the facts regarding the murder. Steroids were in his house BUT NOT PROVEN YET if they were in his system. We have to wait for a 'proper' toxiology report.

Anyways I am just shocked, what could be his motive? Like its very weird he just all of a suddenly flew out Saturday and this occured. This too all before the day he was probaly to win the ECW title (seeing as Nitro won, Benoit was set too win?). Just another kinda scary fact is that one of his best friends Eddie Guerrero also died the day before he was to win the title from Batista (since Batista required surgery).

Benoit Update: The Absolute Latest With Updates Here
06/26/2007 by Ryan Clark

News conference notes from Fayetteville, GA:

From: WGGL shown on Fox News

- Lt. Pope: WWE called police officials at 2:30PM on Monday over concern for Benoit’s well being. Police found all three bodies in the home. “Double Homicide Suicide” is the official ruling.

- It appears Benoit killed his wife on Friday, his son shortly after, and likely hanged himself either late Saturday night or early Sunday.

- No suicide note was left behind.

- Asphyxiation is the official ruling for Benoit’s wife and son deaths.

- Benoit was previously arrested for a DUI.

- A lot of prescription medication was found in the home, legal prescriptions.

- Police found anabolic steroids in the home.

- No comment from police regarding a possible motivation.

- He killed himself several hours, but no more than a day, after killing son Daniel.

- Police is unaware of prior domestic violence.

- District Attorney Scott Ballard stated that a Bible was placed near each murder victim.

- Benoit bond Nancy’s hands and feet and she was wrapped in a towel. Blood was found near Nancy’s body.

- In 2003, a temporary restraining order was sought but later dropped.

- Benoit made no attempt to hide the bodies.

- The DA himself has not heard from WWE.

- Daniel was found in an upstairs bedroom. Benoit’s wife was also found in an upstairs family room, and Benoit hung himself in the weight room in the basement.

- The toxicology reports are still pending. It will probably take more than two weeks for the reports to be finished.

- Benoit apparently called WWE stating that Daniel was coughing up blood, thus likely the “personal reasons” for missing weekend house shows

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon will apologize for the three-hour USA Network tribute to pro wrestler Chris Benoit that aired Monday night, sources said.

The WWE and USA Network have received complaints about the tribute, which was hastily produced after Mr. Benoit, his wife and their son were found dead in their Georgia home Monday afternoon.

Authorities said Tuesday that Mr. Benoit strangled his wife and suffocated his son, then took his own life. But WWE and network officials were unaware of the circumstances of Mr. Benoit’s death when the tribute was assembled, sources said.

The WWE canceled its regularly scheduled “Monday Night RAW” event on USA Network Monday night and aired the tribute in its place.

Mr. McMahon will address wrestling fans tonight on Sci Fi Channel’s live Extreme Championship Wrestling event. He also plans to address speculation that Mr. Benoit’s actions were the result of steroid use.

The WWE plans to resume its regular wrestling telecasts, which air on USA Network, Sci Fi Channel and the CW.

WWE/Benoit Timeline

Saturday, June 23, 2007

Chris Benoit was scheduled to appear at the WWE SmackDown/ ECW live event in Beaumont, Texas

3:30pm
A co-worker received a voice message from Benoit. The message from Benoit stated he missed his flight and over slept and would be late to the WWE Live Event. The co-worker called Benoit back, Benoit confirmed everything he said in his voice message and sounded tired and groggy. Benoit then stated, “I love you”. The co-worker stated that it was “out of context.”

32pm
The same co-worker was concerned with Benoit’s tone and demeanor and called Benoit for a second time. Benoit did not answer the call and the co-worker left a message stating “just call me back.”

34pm
Benoit called the co-worker back stating he didn’t answer the call because he was on the phone with Delta changing his flight. Benoit stated he had a real stressful day due to Nancy and Daniel being sick with food poisoning. They discussed travel plans for the WWE Tour of Texas with Benoit still sounding groggy at this point according to the co-worker.

4:30pm
A co-worker who consistently travels with Benoit, called Benoit from outside Houston airport and Benoit answered. Benoit told the co-worker that Nancy was throwing up blood and that Daniel was also throwing up. Benoit thought they had food poisoning. Benoit stated he changed his flight and he would be arriving into Houston at 6:30pm. Benoit told the co-worker to drive onto the WWE event.

5:35pm
Benoit called WWE Talent Relations stating that his son was throwing up and that he and Nancy were in the hospital with their son, and that Benoit would be taking a later flight into Houston, landing late, but would make the WWE live event in Beaumont.

6:10pm
A representative of Talent Relations called Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations asked Benoit what time Benoit was getting into Beaumont. Benoit responded he was leaving Atlanta at 9:20pm Eastern time arriving into Houston at 9:24pm Central time. The representative from Talent Relations advised Benoit that it would be too late to make the WWE live event in Beaumont. Benoit apologized citing he had a family emergency. The representative from Talent Relations suggested to Benoit that instead of going to the WWE live event in Beaumont, Benoit should take the flight to Houston, rest up and be ready for the Vengeance Pay-Per-View event.

6:13pm
The representative from Talent Relations called Benoit to reconfirm the travel plans with no answer from Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations left a voice message to take the flight and rest up.

Benoit, his wife Nancy (former wrestling personality 'Woman') and their son Daniel, were found dead at their family home in Atlanta in separate rooms with a copy of the bible beside each of them....No motive or note has been found.

Benoit was 40 years old.
Wife Nancy was 43
Son Daniel was 7 years old

Benoit missed a house show over the weekend and failed to appear for the 'Vengeance' 2007

He strangled his wife sometime on Friday...smothered his son sometime on Sunday...called WWE to say he had personal problems and could not be there at VENGEANCE.. and on Monday he hung himself in his basement workout room, hanging himself with a weight-machine pulley.

_____________

Nancy was found in an upstairs family room with her hands and feet tied.

Report: Benoit's Son Had Fragile X Syndrome
06/26/2007 by Ryan Clark

Canadian female Pam Winthrope told News 1130 in Canada that Chris Benoit's son had a genetic condition called Fragile X syndrome.

According to WebMD, "Fragile X Syndrome is a defect of the X chromosome which causes mild mental retardation. The disorder occurs more frequently and severely among males than females. This condition is the leading known familial cause of mental retardation in the United States. Language delays, behavioral problems, autism or autistic-like behavior (including poor eye contact and hand-flapping), enlarged external genitalia (macroorchidism), large or prominent ears, hyperactivity, delayed motor development and/or poor sensory skills are among the wide range of symptoms associated with this disorder."

...

Winthrope noted that the lack of support for those affected by the disorder can tear families apart. Nonetheless, "she couldn't believe the news that Benoit had taken his life along with his wife and 7-year-old son," wrote News 1130.

This may explain why Daniel was taking growth hormone injections. It also may shed light onto why Chris didn't want someone else raising his son and made the fateful decision to kill him. As irrational and twisted as it may sound, he may have felt he was saving his son from the double-blow of losing his parents through a murder-suicide and being subject to being raised by people who didn't understand or care for his condition.

The circumstances around this case continue to get stranger...

Thats life, one minute you're fine and the world seems a great place to be in, and the next, you feel like your life isn't worth living and you do crazy things.
Now killing your wife and kid (or obviously, anyone for that matter), is a discraceful thing to do, and nothing can condone such an act, but you have to take into context the state of the human mind and the state of the affairs that Benoit was involved in. Also, being a wrestler, whether its real or fake, Benoit must have taken aheck of alot of blows to the head, and with a wrestler's lifestyle, hectic, crazy and mad, it happens to people, and im affraid that this might not be the last we hear about a wrestler commiting such an atroucious act.

I'm not defending him, it's completely sickening what he did. But all i was saying was that, it's maybe to be expected, with all the glitz and glamour wrestlers get these days, as well as the pressures, which leads to drug abuse and ultimately depression. What has to be done is that maybe wrestling has to lose some of its glamour, and it has to be realised, that this is only a sport, a form of entertaiment, whose boundaries have to be pulled back in, to realise this. And, for example in the case of paedos, they might be mental in the head, but thats because of maybe their upbringing or abuse throughout their younger life, but, in this case, we see people having pressure heaved upon them, and therefore because of this pressure and glamour which they cant handle, problems start arising and the drug abuse, depression ect starts, which leads to such acts.
But, ultimately,IT IS Benoit who caused this, obviously, but what i am saying is that maybe it is all the pressure on him and all the other influences on him which caused him to become depressed and even turn to drug.
