PCB official's on joy rides

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been under severe criticism for their increasing number of highly paid officials who had to find out some jobs to justify their presence. PCB is supposed to organise and promote cricket in the country but the Board’s ongoing change towards corporate culture seemed to have subjugated the basic objective. The changing culture in the board has over-populated and one can see a situation where officers are more than the offices available in the PCB secretariat while the parking area is gradually spreading day-by-day and one gets an impression of car showroom on entering the Gaddafi Stadium premises.

The situation has become so panic that once a senior GM finance left his office to use the washroom but when he returned back to his office, he saw a new director had captured his office and the GM had to wait for a couple of weeks to get his new office built and handed over to him.

There used to be cabins for the media on the third floor but the PCB had to make the offices in these cabins and no one knows where to accommodate media during the forthcoming international home series. There are populated departments of finance, administration, HR and marketing to facilitate the only cricket operations department. The salaries and expenditures are at rise but the income and the quality of cricket is declining drastically. The PCB marketing has nothing to sell as the previous board has already sold out all the rights in a pact till June 2008 but Director marketing and his ever-growing department is very much there in search of any work.

They had earned nothing but PCB had offered them millions in the last ten months. Director Marketing Dr. Ahsan Malik is working as Director Media who along with Director Cricket Operations Zakir Khan had returned from Dubai a couple of days ago but they are going again on joy ride. Zakir has gone to Kenya to observe the arrangements for the four-nation Twenty20 tournament to be played in first week of September even after the announcement of the itinerary. He will return on September 2. But Dr. Ahsan Malik will leave next day for Kenya to join Pakistan team as media manager for the ICC Twenty20 tournament. Chairman PCB ad hoc committee is in USA and is supposed to arrive back on 26th but his second person in the board Chief Operating Officer (COO) Shafqat Naghmi is leaving for Australia along with assistant Director NCA Ali Zia to observe the bio-mechanical laboratory.

Director Games Development Mudassar Nazar who is in England at the moment, would join them in Australia. It is pertinent to note that no one among them is a specialist to analyse the lab. They have already watched one lab in England and announced to purchase it but the sudden decision to visit Australia seemed amazing.

Shame on all those who oppose Yousuf joining ICL

All this money is earned due to hardwork of these players but the lion's share is taken by PCB officials. Nasim Ashraf's monthly salary is more than 2 million rupees

The salaries of PCB officials is as follows (according to a report in todays dawn newspaper)...

Cheif Operating Officer- Rs 450,000
Director, NCA: Rs 180,000
Director, Cricket Operations: Rs 180,000
Director, Special Projects: Rs 151,000
Director, Media Marketing: Rs 150,000
Chief Financial Officer: Rs 165,000

So all but one PCB official gets less monthly salary than the players.....and since the players get Pepsi money, match fees, bonuses and endorsements on top......the players get much more than any PCB official.

absolutely wrong figures

And for argument's sake even if these figures are true why are these unqualified persons earning so much. this is the money of tax payers which is just getting wasted on such corrupt officials and their families.

A PhD or a professor is earning 50-60,000 in Pakistan and DNA is earning many times more from a job for which he has no qualification.

Is this really tax payer money or what the board earns? If it was tax payer money then the board would not have been bankrupt in 2004.

with the figures shown, there have been numbers shown 10 lakhs for CO, 2 million for PCB president, and then the one reported in dawn which says CO get 450,000 (half of 10 lakhs). maybe some reports/posts have figures after estimating all the expenses and benefits???

Javed Miandad in one of the programs on TV clearly said this and many of the other ex cricketers present there supported his stance.

It is absolutely ridiculous that an idiot like DNA is getting so much money for bringing disaster after disaster upon pakistan cricket and even more sad is the aspect that some of the so called educated guys on Pak Passion supporting such a clown

Whats the source of revenue for PCB? do DNA treat patients and earn revenue for PCB or is it the players who make this revenue for the team. If players are the one who makes money for PCB then there is no point for you to mention that players get much more than any PCB officials. Players must get big share of the income and remaining should be spent on the development of cricket in Pakistan not on your these step fathers.

The point is not how much is the actual salaries of these individuals.. The point is what is their qualification for these jobs? Like someone mentioned above that qualified and experienced professionals in Pakistan are making under Rs 100,000 a month then why these individual gets such salaries in addition to unnecessary trips and bonuses plus traveling allowances.

Hash you should accept the facts and stop defending DNA, unless he is your biological relatives ..... you know what i mean.

Very true. Yesterday read a news that PIA is selling Rosevelt Hotel in New York (which is belonged to PIA and making more than 10-15 millions dollars a year). Board of Directors in PIA recommended to keep the hotel, while cabinet decided to sell it. Cabinet mean ministers of Shaukat Aziz team, and for every one information the deal is being finalized by Citi Bank USA (Shaukat Aziz is on leave from the bank), which will get 5-10 % commission of One billion dollars price bid.

Again qualification of Aziz is being Musharaf friend.

It is the same article as in OP.....but I like the title of the article. It says....."PCB official busy with overseas trips when Pak cricket is in serious crisis"!

This is how much these crooks care about the team and the game of cricket!
