Our U-19 teams from the past, performance [Merged]

In another thread, a comment made about wasted talent kind made me look at a few teams of the past. Following are all Pak Under-19 teams that participated in U-19 WCups.

Just look at the team that got selected for 1999-00 world cups. Almost all the players became permanent members of the senior team and still are. While out of players selected for other world cups, only 2-3 (or 4 at the most) went on to play for Pakistan. I'd like to know who selected 1999-00 Under-19 and would love to bring those selectors back as talent scouts.

Another thing that stands out is, that Pakistan won last two world cups but none of the player from those teams is currently being touted as huge potential player (except Fawad Alam).

So, when I looked these teams, it made me wonder......is it waste of talent, unfair selections, or something else - except 1999-00 team!

Also, would you like to have a team like 1999-00 get selected and lose in the semi-final than get team of no future talent and win the U-19 WC?

P.S. I know, it is too early to any judgment about last WC players but the signs are NOT good!

I was waiting for someone to do this.

Its amazing how Hasan Raza has captained/vice captained in 2 U-19 world cups, and has taken Pakistan decently far yet has avoided playing more then 10 matches since!

Yes, this is what said. Last two teams won the World Cups but the which on of those bowlers can turn into big names of the future. Anwar Ali - the star of the final, has not done anything of note in domestic cricket after that performance. In just concluded match vs Mumbai, Anwar Ali bowled 37 overs for 148 runs while taking only 2 wickets. Four no-name Mumbai players scored 100s. So, the point I was trying to make was that....most of the players from 1999-00 team made an upward progress after that tournament....while rest of the U-19 team could produce "big" players!

....but like I said, it is too early to judge last World cup team!

Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shezad have got futures. Mohammed Aamer has been hyped up. It is a crying shame that the best two bowlers in the previous U19 World Cup have not been part of Pakistan plans. Jamshed Ahmed and Anwar Ali were the stars of that particular world cup but have been constantly overlooked.

i been following the u19 matches over the last 12 months and pretty
every one in the squad has contributed one time or another.

Usman Salahuddin, Imad Wasim have been very consistent.

the 2006 bowlers need to play more fc cricket, the bowler which will probably breakthrough first of that lot is aktar ayub who is pacier than the other two.

The 2000 squad was very strong but only reached the semis!

The 2000 squad was supposed to be our golden generation but it always flattered to decieve and its 'future superstars' massivley underperformed for the senior team. This 2008 squad is somewhat similar to the 2000 squad in terms of potential so here is hoping the history does not repeat itself.

Hasan Raza never went to St Patricks High School.

Faisal and Danish were at St Patricks and i played alongside them for the school team, but be assured Hasan never went to St Pats.

Hasan is the same age as Faisal and Danish, give or take a year either way.

Not sure where u got your info from Big Daddy.

The coach at St Patricks High, Cosmos De Saram, would never have let a player like Hasan go to any other school.

For poor cricketers he often spoke to school authorities and made their education free, even paying for their uniform, cricket equipment, and bus fare from his own pocket.

Great man, but completely mental

Having won the last two under 19 world cups in an ideal world right now as a pakistan fan you would like 6/7/8 of the players from the last two sqauds to now be knocking on door of the 1s team or even being part of the current set up. Hopefully Pakistan can build up a good core of young players to pick from and produce good results on which can serve the 1st team well in next 2/3 years. Otherwise having such sucessful under 19 teams will go to waste.

Cosmos a great man ? From what I know, there aren't enough four letter words to describe him. Ask Imraan Mohammed son of Sadiq aka "mufta".

For me, the biggest tragedies of that group were Jan Nisar Khan, Kashif Mehmood, Shazad Nazir and Imran Qadir.

Jan Nisar, however, looked to have some pace, I don't know what has happened to him, he can bat too and he is tall and gets good bounce, plus he can swing it too. He looked far better than just about every all-rounder I have seen in recent years, I really don't know why he didn't concentrate on bowling quick.

As for Imran Qadir, he looked awesome for his age, what happened ? Kashif Mehmood, wasn't he Azhar's brother ? He should have developed into a serious quick and he had a great natural outswinger, he looked rather taller than Azhar too. As for Shahzad Nazir isn't he too the brother of Shahid ? They looked similar and he seemed to have real pace, didn't cricinfo rate him as fast ?

What get's me is the least threatening of the bowlers, Yasir Arafat, looks the most successful of the lot now, so how did the others get wasted ?

Hmmmm, so who are u calling a mufta, imraan or his dad sadiq, cuz one is my brother and the other is my dad.

Cosmos never gave imraan a good chance, however cosmos was still a great man, cuz he did a lot for cricket at St Pats and did a lot for poorer cricketers.

they won numerous inter-school championships under him, so he must have done something right

That would be telling. Is it true Imraan married a Maim Sahiba, do you think it will help him in playing for England ?

I actually know you very well, but would hate to spoil the surprise. In fact, I even have pictures with you and your family.

Heard you are married too now, in fact you beat Imraan to it. Do you think Cosmos had a good eye for talent ? I mean he could see Imraan had none.

Imraan is married now, but i think his days of playing for England finished a while ago, but we still play club cricket regularly.

as far as cosmos goes, i believe he had a good eye, in the sense that he would bring in good cricketers from other schools who did well for him (e.g. do u remember raza???)

However if he beared a grudge against someone, then he could make their life a living hell, i have exp that side of his too.

Immy was unlucky that he was in the side at a time when there were a lot of other good cricketers around.

Faisal Iqbal had the same problem when he first came into the side, he was batting at no.9 or 10 or not even playing at times. However an injury to our keeper meant he got the chance to open and scored a century.

I am intrigued by the fact that i know u, but just can't seem to b put 2 and 2 together.

put me out of my misery

I was being sarcastic about Imraan and England, that was never going to happen. His footwork was hopeless and he just poked outside the off stump all the time, God only knows how he made a century against Gough & Co. Anyways, what has happened to him, he looks even shorter than he used to and his hair has fallen out, tell him to get a transplant, he looks like a right slimey dirty old man these days. Good job he married Ame when he did.
