15 year old survives 2 hr flight to Moscow....................hanging onto plane wing

MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - A 15-year-old boy from the Urals suffered acute frostbite after riding the wing of a Boeing-737 plane on a two-hour flight from Perm to Moscow, Russian radio station Mayak reported on Monday.
After clinging on for the entire 1300-kilometer (808-mile) flight to Vnukova Airport, the boy, named Andrei, collapsed onto the tarmac. His arms and legs were so severely frozen that rescuers were at first unable to remove his coat and shoes, the radio station said.
The airport did not confirm the report. "We have no information on this," the Vnukovo press service told RIA Novosti.
However, Moscow's air and water transport control department said the radio's claim was true. A department spokesman said the incident occurred on Friday, and that the boy's parents were immediately informed, and flew to the capital the same day.

Doctors said it was nothing short of a miracle that Andrei survived the flight, with temperatures hitting minus 50 degrees Celsius (-58 Fahrenheit), the radio station said. The Boeing-737 has a cruising speed of 900 kmh (560 mph). The boy reportedly made the journey after a commonplace domestic dispute. Angry with his father, who reportedly has a drinking problem, and with his mother for siding with her husband in family rows, Andrei ran away to the neighboring village, where his grandmother lives. On reaching the village, he decided to go on, and hitched a 220-km (137-mile) ride to the regional center, Perm, where he was dropped off at the airport.

It remains unclear how Andrei was able to climb on a plane wing un-noticed, and the Perm Airport security service is being asked some serious questions, the radio station said.
Andrei is now being treated in a Moscow hospital, Radio Mayak said.

2 Pakistans (might have been brothers) froze to death doing something similar about 10 years ago - I think think they hid in the undercarriage (the wheels!!!) trying to hitch a lift.

Officials at Frankfurt airport have revealed that two Pakistani stowaways froze to death in the undercarriage of a cargo plane, after sneaking on board in Malaysia.

The men were clad only in T-shirts and trousers when they smuggled themselves on to the Lufthansa flight, which left Penang International Airport for Frankfurt in Germany in the early hours of Friday.

The body of one of the men was found at Frankfurt later the same day, hanging onto a rear tyre, the officials said.

The other was found on Saturday at Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, where the plane had made a transit stop.

The body had fallen from the aircraft as the wheels were lowered for landing and was found on the approach to the runway.

The men are thought to have frozen to death when the plane climbed to an altitude of 10,000m where temperatures can drop to -50 degrees C.

Malaysian airport officials are now investigating how the men, both airport contract workers, managed to get on the plane.

The round flight originated at Frankfurt and stopped at Madras in India, Penang and Sharjah before returning to Germany.

Mazlan Ayub, a police chief in Penang, said the pair may have thought the plane was calling at Madras on its return flight and were hoping to go home from there.

almost every year many people die of cold weather which is no where close to -50. The report that Oxy posted had someone in come cover (undercarriage) but still died and this kid was outside. How he managed to hang on is

how cold affects people:

Government-run primary schools across India's capital Delhi have been closed for a week as severe cold weather sweeps the north of the country.
The city saw its coldest day of the winter so far when temperatures hit 2.6C on Monday....

Although authorities in India have not released any list of fatalities, unofficial reports say more than 50 people may have died cold-related deaths in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar....

compare a 0 degree temp where people can still light fire or seek shelter to -50 degree where the hand can get frozen in few minutes and needs to be amputated

ppl in Russia are more used to cold weather then those in the sub-continent. moreover it seems that the kid was wrapped in some very warm gear. (moleskin coat) as it is usually very cold in Russia.

If u go to Russia now u are likely to get Frost bites during night becoz ur body isnt used to the temperatures

so why do some western people get extreme frostbite and or deaths at Everest but these people go there prepared and even need oxygen tanks. This temp at even higher elevation is more extreme because of the wind. This is not winter time in Russia. Temp at 30,000 feet will be very cold because I have a big millat fan blowing air there. Parachuters will not dive from that height unless they are crazy. Kids have a lower threshold for pain and tempratures. This -50 is like in bieng Artic going on a snowmobile at high speed with probably average clothing.

Now if the kid was wrapped in 5 inches of wool over a polar bear skin with nothing uncovered and had a oxygen mask then maybe
