If you take 45 north there's a Parrot place on the feeder little north of 1960. Cant miss it. Its going to be on your left, going north. I think its a yellow sign saying PARROTS in red. Short and simple.

What part of Houston you're at? Have you checked the pet stores at malls and around.

Good choice Jatta. If I even wanted a pet I'd get a talking parrot myself. Teach him to say 'he's a smart operator' or something.

These family friends used to have a talking cockatoo. Was quite a relief to find out they gave it away when I was there a couple of weeks ago. Would be quite annoying when it would shout out 'Hello cookie' every few minutes

African grays can learn up to 800 words and are the most intelligent of the parrots. I had a few cockatiels a couple of years ago, loads of fun as they were hand-reared and would not leave me alone, perching on my shoulder all the time. Make sure your parrot is hand-reared and does not bite. Go to a reputable breeder who breeds a very limited number of babies every season and gives them a lot of time and love as an angry and unruly African Grey would only be a very expensive nuisance trying to take off your fingers one by one. As a rule, male parrots are more vocal whereas females are more loving and friendly. In UK a decent hand-reared baby costs around £600 ($1200). They seem to be cheaper in the US. Get a newly but completely weaned baby as he/she would come to love you more in due time and be less hormonal to start with.

Do your research before putting yourself into this commitment. African Greys are the most friendly and easily manageable birds. Pet store birds are 'handled' twice by the employees for a few minutes every day as a part of their duty. They are always less friendly than the birds raised by some (not all) breeders. You need to look for a reputable breeder. You might find some info on online forums:

And this one looks like particularly very useful:
