ICL contractees not barred from domestic cricket

OUR STAFF REPORTER
LAHORE - Pakistan Cricket Board's Director Operations Zakir Khan has said that the board had not banned any rebel Indian Cricket League contracted players from playing in domestic cricket.
"The ICL-contracted players were not barred from appearing in domestic cricket," he said.

He was responding to a question on the ban on players who joined the ICL in the wake of PCB Chief Operating Officer's recent statement that the ICL-contracted players were banned from playing in the domestic cricket.
Zakir said that discussion on the matter was pending and no decision whatsoever had been taken in this regard.
"They are not eligible for Pakistan selection but a ban on them in domestic cricket is yet to be discussed," Zakir said.
Shabbir Ahmed, former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, Abdul Razzaq, Imran Farhat, Taufiq Umar, Azhar Mahmood took part in the the recently concluded ICL. Another official of the board pointed out that the PCB had no lawful right to ban these players from earning money.
Still keen to play for Pakistan, Shabbir said Pakistan lost the series in India because it lacked a match-winning bowler. Shabbir said that Shoaib Malik was an average Test player and instead of him, Pakistan should have handed over the captaincy to Mohammad Yousuf.
On his return from India after playing in the ICL there, Shabbir questioned his acceptability to senior members in the side.
"Malik was never a good Test player and to make him captain in the presence of more senior players is a decision beyond me," Shabbir said. He also blamed Malik for the both Test and ODI series defeats in India.
"If the board wanted to save the team from more defeats, it should make Mohammad Yousuf the captain," he said.
Shabbir played for Pakistan early this year in South Africa before being injured but made a lasting impression in the ICL Twenty20 tournament, taking four wickets in the final.
The lanky pacer, who appeared in 10 Tests during which he was thrice reported for a suspect action, claimed he had been stopped from playing domestic cricket by the board.
"I came back confident of continuing my form from the ICL in our domestic cricket but I have learnt I can't play.
This is not fair and the PCB appears to be just toeing the line of the Indian board to make them happy," he said.

Banned Pakistan cricketers to approach court

KARACHI: Pakistan’s cricket authorities have banned players who appeared in the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) from playing in the ongoing domestic season. Former Pakistan captain Inzamamul Haq, Shabbir Ahmed, Abdul Razzaq, Imran Farhat, Taufiq Umar and Azhar Mahmood – all Test players – appeared in the first edition of the ICL in India that finished earlier this month. The breakaway Twenty20 ICL is not recognised by the International Cricket Council or its member boards including India and Pakistan. “It is a policy decision that players who play in unauthorised leagues cannot be allowed to play in any domestic competition organised by the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board),” said Shafiq Ahmed, PCB domestic cricket general manager. “We cannot allow violation of our rules and regulations by anyone. We don’t think it is a harsh decision.” The PCB has already said it would not consider the ICL contracted players for national selection. The affected players said they would seek to get the ban removed by a court. “How can they stop us from playing domestic cricket. It is not fair on us. Cricket is our bread and butter. This is a violation of our fundamental rights,” Farhat told Reuters. Shabbir accused the PCB of pandering to the whims of the Indian board which was stung by the ICL success. “But we will go to court and get a stay order. They cannot stop us from playing even domestic cricket,” he said. Taufiq said going to court was the only option available to the players. “Our Pakistan careers are already finished. What else can we do,” he said. reuters

If they had no communication with the players or gave a warning that they would be banned, then this is a stupid decision

i honestly dont understand y some players cant make some money. theyre not playing forthe national side. they should be atleast allowed to support a family. This is not some country like ireland where most of the players have full time jobs. they play cricket to earn money.
