Mother-of-two to represent Pakistan in Miss World contest

A married mother of two will go onto represent Pakistan in the Miss World contest this year after being crowned Miss Pakistan World 2008.

Saman Hasnain's crowning marks a time when modern and independent Pakistani women are doing all they can to gain a voice on the international stage.

Said Hasnain, who now lives in San Francisco with her family: "I would like to change the world’s perception of Pakistani women. It is important to raise funds and help resolve issues faced by Pakistan. I hope to act as a role model, and encourage, educate and motivate Pakistani women to help achieve a strong and progressive Pakistan."

The newly crowned Mrs Pakistan World 2008 is a real estate agent by trade, but has already worked diligently to aid a struggling Pakistan find its footing. She showed her charitable nature by helping build a school in a small village in Pakistan for 1000 children, and shown consistent support for DIL (Development in Literacy), all while volunteering at her children’s school in San Francisco. She plans to use her new title to increase her work and broaden her scope throughout the world.

Sonia Ahmed, president of Miss Canada Pakistan Inc, the organisation, which created Mrs. Pakistan World, said: "Our goal is to show the world that Pakistani women have a global voice and a desire to progress and help change the world.

"We created Miss Pakistan World in 2002 and we have seen our mission come to light as the crown winners have won several international titles and helped to prove that all Pakistani women can eventually have a positive and free-thinking future on a global scale."

She added: "Someone from western society may find it challenging to see how a beauty pageant would act as a means for women’s liberation, however for the women of Pakistan these pageants are a sign that there is a lot to look forward to in the progression of their country. A global voice is something that many of these women grew up not realising would be possible in their lifetime."

She's not all that. There's millions and millions of Pakistani girls and women who are much better looking, but why would they want to degrade themselves by putting their names for competitions such as this?

This is what you get when you judge yourself against kaffir standards.....

She and her friends should do something worthwhile and show that Pakistani muslim women have standards, intelligence, morals and honour....

Prancing about in bits of strings which they call clothes demeans not only them but Pakistan as a whoal

Well my point was that on one hand people criticize her for taking part in a beauty contest because it's unislamic ... yet then they go one to judge her looks and say she isn't pretty enough ?!?!?!

for example -

pakistani women should follow the examples of arundhati roy, marie curie, or amy goodman if they have hopes of changing the world...not showcase themselves in meat market contests that confirm the stereotype of women as objects...

^^ It will take time dude, the west didn't all of a sudden let women into all high position jobs and allowed them to vote, it took years, centuries... Even after that, they were expected to stay at home, and this is just some 70 years back. Even in the 60s they used to be treated badly, for example people in england used to say im going back home to "the" wife. It will take time...

The question, though, is does she also have a right to "represent" Pakistan when a majority doesn't want their country to associate with such "competitions".

Miss world puts more emphasis on personality than looks, judging from the kind of women who have made the top 3 in the past.

excuse me but yes i was being sarcastic and when i mean our women i mean they are our sisters etc as Islam says we should see them as...thats the context under which i used the term..

on to the serious point...do people on this forum honestly and genuinley think that a woman that displays her self for some judges , who then proceed to judge her on her beauty(breasts, bum, curves, hair etc etc) is liberating women? why is it it liberating to display yourself to (lets be honest) a predominantley male agenda that sees women as mere sex objects?

you know the biggest trick the devil ever pulled was making people believe he doesnt exist...and thats what our male dominated world society has done with feminism and womens liberation..women are mere "****"objects who have been fooled into believing satisfying a 100 males or showing her beauty is liberating...the best liberation for a woman is to say "this is mine not yours" !! we have forgotten the lessons of the past, a liberated woman is one who has the power to say no to a man and then make that "no" count!!...

San Francisco woman crowned Mrs Pak World

It helps to just google her name ...

http://www.ibnlive.com/news/san-fran...28-19.html?xml

Quote:
Toronto: San Francisco-based Saman Hasnain has been crowned the new Mrs Pakistan World 2008.

The pageant, which is into its second year, was organised by Toronto-based Miss Canada Pakistan Inc. that has also been running Miss Pakistan World for Pakistan-origin girls worldwide since 2002.

Hasnain, the 37-year-old mother of two and real estate agent by profession, was short-listed for the competition and crowned Mrs Pakistan World by voters online.

She will now represent Pakistan in Mrs World 2008 and Mrs Globe 2008 pageants.
"In my role, I would like to change the world's perception of Pakistani women. I hope to act as a role model, and encourage, educate and motivate Pakistani women to help achieve a strong and progressive Pakistan,” Hasnain said.

She said she would also expand her charitable work in Pakistan where she has already built a school for 1,000 children and worked with an NGO Development in Literacy.

Miss Pakistan and Mrs Pakistan organizer Sonia Ahmed told IANS: "The assassination of Benazir, who was the voice of modern Pakistani women, is a blow to us. But we want to show the world that Pakistani women have a global voice and a desire to progress."

Hasnain's crowning, she said, was another step by modern Pakistani women to have a voice on the international stage.

"Pakistani women are not what they are projected in the media. They are modern, progressive women who want to live an independent life," she said.

Since Pakistan does not allow beauty pageants for religious reasons, Sonia said: "Liberal Pakistan-origin women have a platform in Canada to tell the world that they are among the most beautiful women in the world. We have a terrific response. Even hijab-clad girls and women apply for Miss Pakistan and Mrs Pakistan. But we reject them."

Bikini parades, she said, are a must for those seeking to contest for Miss Pakistan, which is held some time in the middle of the year in Toronto.

"We are making Mrs Pakistan a big pageant on the lines of Miss Pakistan. Right now, Mrs Pakistan contestants send us their photo portfolios. We hold phone interviews with them, quiz them and then shortlist them. Those short-listed vie for Mrs Pakistan as people vote online for them."

Interestingly, Toronto, where the beauty pageant is based, was recently shocked when a Pakistani Canadian strangled to death his 16-year-old daughter, Aqsa Parvez, for refusing to wear a hijab.

Maybe think of things in the inverse ...

I can't imagine my wife wearing a burqa, hijaq or "burkini".

You think if Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was around today, he wouldve said 'mashaAllah' to this? Please tell me you're kidding?!

She is really good looking, what are you guys moaning about.
There may be millions of better looking girls in Pakistan, in fact Im sure there are, but if they tried to do what she is doing they would get stoned or executed.
Its no good having beauty if its always hidden away.

she is quite goodlooking.. i was expecting someone really ugly and for a 38yr old shes a certified Milf..

What i find more funny is people commenting on her looks are probably absolute munters and get by just a handjob..

She ain't ugly, but there is absolutely nothing special about her looks. She's one of those 100s you see daily. Nothing special nor different !!
