Afridi equals world sixes record

Shahid Afridi equalled the world record for sixes in one-day games as Pakistan took charge against Zimbabwe in Multan.

Tawanda Mupariwa (4-46) left the hosts in trouble at 78-5 on a flat track before Afridi tore the bowling apart.

He smashed six maximums in his 85 off 52 balls, equalling Sanath Jayasuriya's overall total of 245, as he dominated a stand of 116 with Misbah-ul-Haq (44).

Pakistan finished with 272-9 in Multan and in a strong position to take a 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Earlier, Mupariwa returned his best ODI figures in his first match of the series to slice through the middle order.

MOST SIXES IN ODIS
245: S Afridi (Pak, 252 games)
245: S Jayasuriya (SL, 403)
190: S Ganguly (Ind, 311)
166: S Tendulkar (Ind, 407)
153: C Cairns (NZ, 215)

He did his damage after tight spells from Elton Chigumbura and Gary Brent kept the scoring down to 12 runs in eight overs at one stage.

Four wickets fell for 12 runs as Salman Butt (23) cut Chigumbura to point while Nasir Jamshed (32), who hit half-centuries in the first two games holed out to mid-wicket off Mupariwa.

Younus Khan (10) was trapped by a slower delivery from Mupariwa, who then took a return catch off Mohammad Yousuf, while Sean Williams brilliantly ran out captain Shoaib Malik from square-leg.

Pakistan needed something special and Afridi supplied it to take them to 194-6 before he smacked Mupariwa straight to cover with a first ODI hundred in three years there for the taking.

Kamran Akmal (28) and Kamran Hussain (28no) chipped in with useful runs at the end to complete the turnaround for the home side.

King of sixes Afridi.I think he will be at the top in terms of hitting sixes.Jayasuriya will retire soon.So he can hold that record for long.

Considering the players below him are either retired or close to retiring and afridi has many years left in him he will add to this record, which possibly will never be broken..

Not bad, fastest 100 and most sixes ever

Not bad for a non legend

Pakistani's have an eye for the record books. With two more ODI's to play, Shahid Afridi will take sole possession of most sixes hit, inshallah.

I reckon he could reach 350+ before his career is over.

Well considering us fans have nothing else to cheer up ourselves about, the only one player in the team with passion and aggression is performing but, is being held back by bias selectors and a captain with a dummy in his mouth and being nutured by the board to be a 'yes-man'

Other than that a fantastic achievement by Afridi and long may those sixes continue!!

He is the King of Sixes or rather the King of Widescale Massacre that often results when he decides the time has come for the hapless bowler to be launched into oblivion.
