Real Reason For Austraia Not Playing Pakistan

Seriously if you think about it, 3 Words

INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE!

delay the series by 5 or so months and watch how they become all "pakistan is a safe country for us to tour blah blah"

This "rumor" is all over the net. Just look at Gilly's desperation and efforts to play in IPL. Don't you think, other Australian players would be that (if not more) desperate.

No wonder, there will be a lot of Aus cricketers who want to earn a few hundred grand for some slogging, 4 overs bowling and an hour or so of diving around than long days in the field on dead pitches and then stuck in hotels for the rest of the time.

Still shouldn't be allowed to do it, because I fear it will make it permissible for other sides to skip Pakistan tour.

it's interesting which i haven't thought about yet. but since IPL is the "official" league with the blessings of ICC, wouldn't it be scheduled without overlapping with the regular tours?

absurd. aussie players themselves are complaining that CA is raising sponsorship issues which might jeopardise their chances of taking part in IPL.

But it's a BCCI tournament, i.e. a domestic one. It is the same as county season overlapping with International matches, normally the latter takes precedence for most players, however with the new tournament and the money involved who knows.

Which clearly means that both parties (Aus players and CA) are dead serious about participating in IPL. If they think/know, they are going to Pakistan then why raise these issues?

you must understand that they stand to get their money even if the contracted players do not participate in IPL. IPL has an exception clause for players in the event there is a clash of schedule.

If they delay IPL, then it will overlap County season and some other international tours which starts in June. Australia is supposed to visit West Indies in June.

Is Symmonds really going to risk playing in India? Best of luck to him, crowd might call him something worse than monkey this time. Hope not. Let it be over and buried. But coming to OP, there might be a grain of truth in that Aus is looking forward to IPL more than Pak. Not just because of the money but because they feel missing a Pak series is dangerous and no big deal. If that is so it's SAD because a series should always be the most important cricket played in a player's life

http://www.cricketnext.com/news/rebe.../29549-13.html
Melbourne: A newspaper column by all-rounder Andrew Symonds critical of Cricket Australia's sponsorship restrictions regarding the Indian Premier League was censored by the Board Saturday.

In the column which was set to be published in several papers, Symonds wrote about the frustrations of Australia's Test stars over the Board's tackling of the issues with regard to the proposed Twenty20 series in India.

Under Cricket Australia rules, all players writing newspaper columns must have their material read and approved by CA media director Peter Young.

"There are inaccuracies in the column. Andrew does not understand the full story," Young told The Sunday Mail.

"I cannot provide approval for publication. He needs to be briefed on the situation. There will be a player briefing next week."

However, Symonds stood by his version of the story.

"Right now a lot of the boys in the Australian side are excited about maybe taking part in the Indian Twenty20 series called the IPL in April. But we can't quite work out what's going on with the chiefs at Cricket Australia, who seem to be trying to run interference by putting up a heap of red tape," he told the paper.

"To be brutally honest, as players we just can't understand the stance they've taken. We're all keen to have a hit if the tour of Pakistan gets called off, but Cricket Australia have played what looks like a bit of a trick shot."

Symonds said the IPL was a great concept with the best players in the world squaring off against each other.

"The IPL looks like being a sensational tournament where the world's best cricketers get to have a crack at Twenty20. There's a heap of top players signed up including Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Michael Clarke, Nathan Bracken, Brett Lee and myself."

He argued that CA's sponsorship restrictions were unreasonable.

"It's my understanding Cricket Australia are trying to say that Aussie players can't play for teams who are sponsored by competitors to Cricket Australia sponsors.

"The weird thing is for years the Pura Cup sponsors have always conflicted with CA sponsors. And it's the same for blokes like Warnie (Shane Warne), Simon Katich and Justin Langer who play county cricket in England. As players, we can't work out whether CA are deliberately trying to be difficult or what the problem is," Symonds said.

"The Players' Association are working hard to try and clear the way so hopefully we can work something out," he added.

Actually, none of the Austrlalian cricketers except Gilchrist has been cleared byt heir board to play for IPL. They are supposed to have a clause which will prevent them from joining like 5 years after they retire from cricket (which the players are protesting) but they made an exception for Gilchrist.

Seeing the board's stance, BCCI have said they will go ahead wothout AUS players and these players wnt be included in the current auctions

That is another reason that Pak tour will since not happen since who would want to pay Aus players for NOT playing in IPL. I am sure there will be HUGE push/inside-dealings to make sure that Aus player do play in IPL - if in fact they are going to et paid.
Do you think, IPL people were idiots when they wrote that clause. ......that "we'll give this huge sum of money just for signing Aus players and then let them happily tour Pak". Not going to happen, sir!

How many people want to BET with me that;
1) Aus will NOT tour Pak.
2) Aus players will play in IPL.

Its amazing how everybody wants a piece of meat in this Indian barbeque even the by passers like CA. they have some nerve asking for money. Its a direct contract between players and the league. CA just wants to pimp some money I guess.

ICL's contract was between players and ICL but look how jumpy DNA (NZ board etc) is....about the whole thing.

I agree. Money rules and that is the sad truth. Soon, every country's cricket season will be made keeping the IPL schedule in mind, not the other way around. IPL will dominate world cricket. Lalilt Modi is the new god of cricket and CA, PCB,ECB etc. are his bunnies.
