Kiwis heading to Pakistan to play 3 - ODI's .

April 21, 2008 NEW Zealand will play three one-day internationals in Pakistan later this year, a senior Pakistan Cricket Board official said.

Shafqat Naghmi, chief operating officer of the board, said New Zealand would be coming to Pakistan ahead of September's ICC Champions Trophy to play the short series.

"They have confirmed they want to play the three games but they want to do it closer to the Champions Trophy so an itinerary is now being worked out," Naghmi said.

Pakistan, who are hosting the Champions Trophy, have invited New Zealand as part of their efforts to arrange international games following Australia's decision to postpone their tour to Pakistan in March-April for security reasons.

"We wanted New Zealand to play five matches but they have agreed on three due to the hectic Champions Trophy schedule," Naghmi said.

He said Pakistan had also invited West Indies for a one-day series in August but they had declined because of commitments in Canada.

Didn't same officials say....
Australia will come....but it was canceled.
Then Indian tour was announced .............. but then that was called off.
Then Sri Lanka tour was announced .............. but then that was called off.
Same official announced WI tour ...... but WICB refused.

So does this "Senior Pakistan Cricket Board official" thinks either the fans are idiot or..... something else?

We have to wait for that. Naseen has mentioned before that Media misinterpreted his statement and announced on public without confirming by PCB. If PCB confirms this, then i will believe it. Beside, the source is Reuter which is likable and reliable. . Can we trust Reutor or is Reutor following another Indian Masala News? Choose your answer and win KBC

So, this time the tour is arranged by Reuter instead of PCB?

I don't believe him, but watched his interview. Media made big deal out of it.

I am not sure whether Reuter is reliable or not. I have stopped trusting articles. Wait for PCB and NZ to confirm this

This was my 1st point...AUS, IND, SL & WI tours were ALSO announced and confirmed by PCB.... by other boards never confirmed them. So why are you excited if you want to WAIT for the confirmation?

Seems like PCB by makes fool out of the fans who tend to believe these "tour announcement" without having the other boards to confirm them first.

Those articles never confirmed by PCB. That's what i saw on interview. Naseem never confirmed those. Which's why i have stopped relying article without confirming.

Why the hell doesn't the PCB have a proper policy regarding which of its officials are allowed to speak to the media, and what they're allowed to say? It seems that the PCB is full of people who want to be in the limelight because it makes them look (or at least feel) important. No other cricket board in the world at the moment has so many loose cannons.

It has nothing to do with PCB. Cricket is popularity in Pakistan. Media can provide any article they want. Be it fake or not. If PCB hasn't confirmed this, then you can't blame on PCB, but should blame Media for leading the misunderstanding. It's always Media who play big part.

It's quite interesting how the PCB goes after players for speaking to the media when they themselves starting with the showboat Naseem Ashraf are in fact even worse offenders.

If Shoaib got a 5 year ban for criticizing the board ... Naseem Ashraf and Shafqat Naghmi should be getting multiple life time bans for all of their foolish media statements and blatant exaggeration/lying.

Come to think of it malik brother could very well be our own Shoaib Malik - he is always his most vocal supporter and his mastery of the English language is akin to that of Shoaib Malik.

New Zealand agree to tour Pakistan

Three ODIs subject to safety approval

New Zealand agree to tour Pakistan

Cricinfo staff

April 23, 2008

New Zealand will warm up for the Champions Trophy in September with a three-ODI series in Pakistan, subject to safety approval. New Zealand had been asked to extend their trip to five matches, after West Indies turned down Pakistan's offer to visit for three one-dayers as well, but decided on three.

A New Zealand spokesperson told Cricinfo: "NZC has agreed to play three matches in Pakistan. With the Champions Trophy taking place we felt that was the right number in terms of our preparation."

It will be their first visit in five years and is likely to take place in August, but details will only be finalised once security approval has been given. "The security aspects will be worked through closer to the time," NZC confirmed.

The board are not keen to return to Karachi, where a bomb exploded on New Zealand's last tour of the country, in 2002. Instead it is understood they favour Rawalpindi and Lahore.

The news is a further fillip for Pakistan following Australia's agreement, announced on Monday, to fulfil their obligations in Pakistan in a tour split into two legs over two visits in 2009 and 2010.

Australia had postponed their tour, originally scheduled for March and April, owing to security concerns arising from suicide bombings in Pakistan. The Champions Trophy is slated for Pakistan, but Sri Lanka are down as reserve hosts.

The West Indies board had declined Pakistan's offer as they are already committed to play some games in Canada in August.

Well you gotta give em one thing, at least they're trying.

And as much as I'm craving some test cricket, I never expected any tests to be planned to make up for the idle time. Tests tours are almost always preset.
