Pakistani Cuisine, All the Way (and like 12th man said, not to be confused with Indian)...but has to be from a good restaurant where the taste and standard of food remains constant...not like any Maajha Saajha Corner shop where depending on how many cooks have been fired in the last few days, the food varies from Average to really disgusting (which will qualify almost 80% of the restaurants in this category)!

Some of the great dishes are: Wadaay Payaay with Bong, Seekh Kababs, Chappal Kababs, Mutton/Chicken Karahi, and Off Course the food of Heaven AKA Punjabi Pulaao.

P.S. Some Arabic dishes are heavenly too...

As much as I love a variety of foods, and trust me, I do eat a lot of Chinese, Mexican, Afghan, and Italian, it all comes down to Pakistani food. Unbeatable.

Biryani, seekh kabab, and qorma are some legendary dishes.

We've started making & eating a lot of chinese dishes in the last year.

get Shaan Masaala. not much work and very cheap. I salute Shan Masala The best invention around. They make very good Haleem too very little work involved. But don't get the grounded one (blue box) and don't follow the box too much. Get the red box. Shake the box if you hear chun chun then that is good. Read the instructions and pet it couple of times for better results. If you get the blue box then you need a electric whip to mix it in otherwise too many lumps. Sometimes it mix the two when I am adventerous or I feel have too much meat or spices in or I want it to last longer.

Couple of time I have made haleem while working as I live close by. I went to store got meat and the garnish. Went to home started making it. I was at work in maybe 50-60 min. Went o home couple of hours later for inspection and to stir it. went back to work. couple of hours later went home and it was almost ready

I think all of us deep down like different food in different times. With friends Muglai and kabab, with family night out Hibachi grill, take outs chinese foods (spicy), Pizza when a game is on (cheese sauce on the side), at home while it rains khichuri and hilsa, at villaeges must have bhorta's, at picnic BBQ chicken, in journey sandwidthes with cold chilled coke-cola, at stadium futcha etc etc etc.

to me the difference is subtle for many dishes common. That probably comes from spices. Then there are some foods you will not see in Indian restaraunts probably because of religion even though they might come from India. In Los Angeles area we hardly go to desi restaraunts because we (me and my friends) can cook better. We are not professionals and we mess up at times but restraunts seem to cook for non-desis or that is how the food is.

I have tried Indian spices (curry powder) and it tasted different compared to Paksitani ones. I had not heard of Tandori chicken until I moved to USA. In Pakistan it is just tikkas (BBQ) but Shan has Tandoori chicken mix so it might be possible they have it there. Once we went to a restaraunt and they asked if we wanted mild or spicy. So from last experience of sweetish curry we said spicy and he probably just poured in red chilli in it.

Most restaraunts in LA I have gone to have been Indian or Bangladeshi owned. I have heard from a English guy that Indian restaraunts are different here. I believe him as they probably try to make it for Americans but the spices tasted a little different to. Now if you are in Los Angeles area the only place I have found which is good (or food tastes like Paksitan) is Al-Watan. It is close to the airport (LAX) and a small place.

But there probably are regional cooking too to add to the difference.

But I have given up on desi restaraunts now. I cook my stuff and if I have to eat out we go to something different

start making tikkas at home. To start and be comfortable you don't need much masala, just salt, pepper and lemon to be very basic or you can get a marinade from supermarket. I recommend a spicy one not the hawaiian sweet stuff. Or some hot sauce is also good. If you are in family home then you probably have spices so put a bit of this and that with lemon juice and you are ready to go in couple of hours. You can always make adjustments in all the cooking. No need to waste money on desi food outside as Shan Masala is there and it is fun to cook. Get a friend or two to cook with

What do you mean. It is the biggest cuisine-brand in UK from what I hear and amongst the biggest with Italian and Chinese in most other places.

There are lot of cuisine styles under the Indian umbrella from Dosa, Vada, Puttu in south to northern tandoori and non-tandoori.

Besides meals, nothing beats Gujrati for snacks and farsan.

I voted Pakistani BUT Pakistani/Indian is the same to me - the restaurants I go to are called Indian restaurants BUT they are run by Pakistani's or Bengalis - basically Desi food is what i like

I have tried Italian in the UK and its okay - altho thats cos the menu is limited since no meat BUT i tried Italian in Dubai and i loved it

I tried Thai in Manchester a couple of weeks back - I didnt think much of it, the duck was good BUT it was cooked in a sweet/sour sauce which didnt taste right

Chinese food is just

Basically desi food is the best and Sheekh kebabs are just class

I have found no difference between Indian and Pakistani owned food places in Australia. A non desi wouldn't even be able to make out the nationality of the owner.

Can't beat Pakistani/Indian -- whatever you want to call it.

Indians make some great vegetarian dishes than Pakistanis can't make, but man... no one can grill a tikka or a kabab like Pakistanis!

I love good mexican food... full of flavors and colors.

Thai good is also amazing...get it as spicy as you can, and yes you will pay for it later on, but man,.... you will enjoy the moments you spend eating it.

Not a big fan of Italian or French; Chinese is OK too.

Love persian food! not spicy, but great flavors...must try it if you guys havem't already. Don't confuse it with arab, middle eastern, or anything else... iranian food is simply delicious.

Pakistani food is fantastic and I will never tire of eating it but from a health point of view it tends to be quite bad and fattening.

To me, Thai food is the best.

I have a few comments on British cuisine.....

What is it?
Apart from fish & chips (from a chippy)

Also, why do the Briish eat 'raw' meat (eg 'rare' - and the emphasis on it being pink & raw/with the blood still in it)

Bangers and mash
Shepphers pie
cottage pie
sunday roast
bacon and eggs

I guess, that sort of thing. I don't eat pigs meat so i don't know what that is like but i have never been a particular fan of the rest.

The biggest difference between Indian and Pakistani Food is:

Most Indian restaurants and normal folks too, use a) Curry Powder and b)Sour Cream or some sort of cream...in most of their dishes.

Which makes the general taste of all the dishes to be the same!

Pakistani dishes in general never use Curry powder or any Cream...each dish is created with a different set of ingredients (many now use Shan's Masaalas instead of individual ingredients)...and hence the taste of each dish stands out and is different from all others.

No dig at Indian food but I will not eat at an Indian rsetaurant unless I cannot find any decent Paksitani restaurant nearby...

Having said all that, I don't eat out much in Orlando because there is not one single Good Restaurant here...Period!

All restaurant dishes are kept semi cooked with final touches added before serving. No restaurant makes dishes ab initio after the order has been placed. There just isn't enough time unless they make their customers wait long time.

And who said anything about 'Any restaurant making dishes' on the trot for each customer; that would be idiotic to say the least unless the customer is willing to wait for over an hour and willing to pay $25-30 for each dish...can you show me where I said that?

Do read my last post clearly and try to understand what I was talking about!

Ok. I thought different ingredients will preculde semi prepared dishes. Can't see it happening any other way.

Indian cuisine for me anyday

starting from early morning breakfast of idlis and dosas with chutney and sambar to tandoori chicken and naan, i just love the variety it has to offer. But nothing like Mughlai Cuisine and i never tire of eating Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani.

Favorite Dishes: Alexandar Kebab (Best Dish there and unlike most dishes I have eaten anywhere), Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich, Gyro (Chicken/Lamb on authentic Naan like Pita Bread ONLY)...rest of the sandiches are good too

2- Golden Dynasty (Chinese/Pakistani shop): Corner of S.OBT (17-92) and Whisper lakes Blvd (3 Miles approx Past Florida Mall and close to Exit to Highway 417 (Greenway))

Asad, the owner of the shop is a friend of mine...tell him Mansoor told you about his place; we used to play cricket in the same team.

Dishes I have tried and liked: Biryani (quite different from all other Biryanis I have had), Crispy Chicken, Ginger Chicken, Spicy Chicken Wings, Kung Pao Chicken, Cilli Chicken, Curry Chicken...

3- Memories of India (Corner of Sandlake Road and Dr Philips Road...just east of I4)...it is owned by an Indian and Pakistani and I believe the cook is Pakistani.

Problems: Not sure about if they use Halal Meat (I have not eaten there in a few years now) and they also serve Alcohol (I try not to go to such restaurants)

Their Sunday Lunch/Brunch Buffet is quite good with decent selection of dishes.

4- Chat House: S. OBT (17/92), just past the Beachline (SR 528) exit...

Best Food: Gyros, Andaa Parathaa, and many others that are not that bad...this place is different from most Indian/Pakistani places and also sell fresh made Mithaai

Different Ingredients can still be used by only having the base ready i.e. Golden browned onions with tomatoes, and a few key common ingredients already added in there...and then when the customer orders any dish, they can put the 'Remaining Ingredients' for that dish and the dish is ready to to be served in 3-40 minutes.

I believe that is how most restaurants do it.

There are a dozen varieties of indian food.

You cant generalize.

Ever tried South Indian food ? Malabar ? Konkani ? malayali ? Gujrati ? all are quite different from one another.

If you r into mutton, try something called Mutton Gongura.. its an Andhra dish.. prolly the best mutton in the world (but maybe u guys cant handle that much spice )

The more varities I have tried, the more localized 'Ingredients' I have found in each of them!

For Example: Some put 'Dried Coconut' in almost all their dishes; some use the 'Sour Cream' or Cream in most dishes...so on and so forth.

If you think any Indian dish has the amount of 'Spice' or 'Red Peppers' that are used in almost every dish in most Punjabi homes...then you have no idea what you are talking about!

Some of the folks use so much spice/red peppers that one has to drink some water after literally every bite.

^ Andhra is really a region where hot food really dont have any limits. Especially the southern part of Andhra Pradesh. Anantapur, Ongole, Chittoor, etc. Thats the only place where I've ever heard anything called "chilli rice". I tried a mild version of it and couldnt sleep for that night. (despite drinking loads of water and eating laddoos) And there's the Andhra chilli in everything: boiled potatoes, yoghurt, chappatti dough, etc, etc.

I dont know if it was a good thing but I lost 4.5 kgs in 2 days. And thats not a joke.

And also, eating a proper italian dish in a medium sized village somewhere in Bologna (with a view of the mountains) is cuisine nirvana. Not to undermine other cuisines though, but I think this poll should be adjusted for patriotism.

Maybe the poll should be like whats your favorite exotic cuisine.

I like thai food apart from indian food.

Man how do u knw so much abt Andhra ? Thought u were a saffer.

ya, Andhra food is the spiciest on the planet.

And monsee dont bring in the regionalistic stuff again.. each regional flavor makes the food unique.. Kerala has lovely coconut-based dishes. Some of the sweet meats from Andhra are quite delicioso as well. Tamils have their amazing Idli, Dosa, Sambar.. And kanadigas eat the same food as Andhras sans chilli.

BTW, IMHO, Punjabi food is either for kids or grannies with a death wish

Its anti-heart, unhealthy and full of cholesterol inducing thick gravy.

But I do njoy it once in a while, not often though coz I'd rather smoke a pack a day than eat butter chicken or rogan josh or ghost or whatever daily.

And frankly other than one or two chicken dishes, they cant cook anything good.. while andhra food has excellent mutton, venisson and even beef (if u consider hyderabadi cuisine as well).

I don't think people (like me) are reading the poll question which has "international" which might mean something you didn't grow up with. The thread title is just "favorite cuisine" and I didn't even read the poll question or choices

Naaku telugu kooda koddhiga artham avuthundi.
(I even understand a bit of telugu)

I've travelled to quite a bit of Andhra Pradesh.

edit: Speaking of AP, a Tirupati laddoo has to be right up there aswell. One of the best (if not the best) sweet I've ever eaten (and I've had quite a few)

There are many other regios in Pakistan that have their own sub-cuisines....

Punjab is just one. It doesnt represent Pak cuisine as a whole...

Shukria buht buht! I have been to golden dynasty and the food was awesome but haven't been to any of the other 3. The only problem is that i live too far up North and most of the IND/PAK restaurants are at least 35-40 mins from my house

I am in the same boat so I don't eat out much; I live by the Goldenrod Mosque and it is about 35-45 minutes away from the nearest decent restaurant!

P.S. All the places suck in the sense that none of them stand out, head and shoulders, from the rest...and I get tired of the same kind of taste and same food.

Unlike Lahore, where you can find a good place to eat at, almost every 5-10 minutes (no matter what is your standard)...we are stuck in the land of mediocre restaurants!

OK, let me restate it: 'I will not eat at an Indian restaurant unless I know that they:

- Don't use Curry Sauce or Masaala in all dishes
- Don't cook everything with sour cream or some sort of cream
- Don't try to cook everything in Youghurt'

If I find a restaurant, whether it be Indian or Pakistani, where the real taste of each food stands out and not that every dish tastes the same...I will eat there; provided it serves Halal Meat (I don't eat non-Zabiha/Halal meat any more)

Are U happy now...BTW, I might still not wanna shake the hands of a Tendi Lover
