Should Umpires be removed from the game??

The game is between bat and ball and between countries. Umpires should have nothing to do with cricket in my opinion. More and more the focus is being shifted from good cricket to the umpires who are getting all the attention. There is technology available to detect everything. Yet again we see many pathetic umpiring decisions. They have called no balls for perfectly good deliveries and one of them was a wicket ball!! we saw in the last game how harsh the umpires were against pakistan and so in this match they are trying to show how fair they are by being pathetic for BOTH teams!!!

If people reallly want to keep the tradition of umpires they can have them stand there and have 3rd umpire give all decisions through an ear phone. Either that or they can make remote controlled inflated dummies that look like sheperd/hair etc. Should the icc raise the finger to the umpires???

Even third umpires can be cheats!

Have you forgotten the wrong decision given by the Indian 3rd umpire. I think that his name was something like Haricurry

more and more technology shud be brought in cricket

as more the technology lesser oppurtunities umpire will have to cheat

but we must have umpires on the field so tht they can have a 1st hand experience of any controversy which goes off on the field

hmmmmmm there might not be enough discipline on the pitch like if a bowler runs on to the middle of the pitch etc he has no warning and if a fight breaks out there are no fat umpires to break it up

Either way, someone is always gonna blame something, if a decisino goes wrong...then people will blame techno.

I think we should keep umpires and leave third umps for only run outs. It adds a element of surpirse and suspense. It would get boring with technology, and bad calls are part of the game. Gives us fans a excuse to rant about, debate about, pride about.

Remember, alot of decisions have gone against us, but in 2001 when we beat England in that last session at 2nd test(I saw the video today) we bowled 4 no balls and got wickets on them, which inevitably cost England the game.

Just adds to the game and makes it more interesting, I say let them stay!

For those who want more input from technology (and I am not actually one of them), what type of system would they introduce? Could the umpires refer anything, or would it be an American football type system. I am sure there are lots of other methods.

Naz,

Someone has to make the decisions.

You guys obviously have no recollection of the bad old days, when umpiring was openly corrupt. English umpires were right up there with the best (ie: worst) of them. You get steamed now about a bad decision or 2, when the margin of error is an inch or so.

In the old days, certain umpires (read: David Constant, Mervyn Kitchen, etc) would think nothing of ruling against Pakistan when the margin of error could be measured in FEET, not inches.

Remember when Graham Gooch was run out at Headingly in 1987? Kitchen didn't give it. When the replay was shown, the BBC used a wide angle replay, AND GOOCH WASN'T EVEN IN THE FRAME. The commentators were speechless (meaning: they didn't criticise the English ump, they just kept and embaressed silence).

PS: that was just the most blatent of about 20 odd bad decisions given against Pakistan in the Test.

I have given an examples that went against Pakistan, but in reality, all home umpires behaved similarly, to differing degrees.

Compared to that, the current situation is pure bliss...

I am all for technology and i want it to get in the game as soon as possible.

Because even if technology is not 100% correct aleast the element of bias is not there. The thing is wrong decisions is one thing but decisions favoring one side should be discontinued.

i think it should be pretty clear that australia and england recieve the benefit of the doubt when it comes to giving decisions now if it is bias from the umpires or the teams' creative way of appealing it doesn't matter.

Atleast with technology there will be no more favoring for certain teams.
