Going to Lahore in August

Will report back what I see as far as the current economic situation and if there have been any improvements (deterioration most probably) in infrastructure, land development etc.

I'll also try to take as many pictures as possible and post them here. I'm expecting to be in for a challenging time considering that electricity goes out almost 6 hrs daily and it will be hot and humid as hell. On the plus side, I will be enjoying eating all I can , some of the delicious eateries, drinking endless supply of on-demand tea and of course my mom's tasty home cooked meals!

A quick question for people who visit Pak and drive cars - I misplaced my driver's license a long time back and last time I visited Lahore I drove without a license, although I did have my US driver's license in the wallet. My dad tells me that traffic cops don't acknowledge a US license and will give me all kinds of crap about it. Is this true and if so , then can an international driver's license work? Like for example from AAA.

If you have an ID card or car papers they dont even ask for license for starters, the first thing they ask for is car papers.

Lahori best wishes for your trip. Just make sure you have your car papers...once they see you have them...then they will ask you for your license depending on if you look pardesi or not.

From your posts here you don't seem like a mommy daddy bacha type so I think you will be fine. If you are you better have the license or know someone in the police department or be ready to give money everytime your stopped.

If your renting a car...make sure it has lahore plates on it. If it is a nice car they are unlikely to pull you over.

If you don't want to drive you can rent a car and it will come with a driver.

I was there last summer and at that time the rates were about 1000 rs per day for a newish Corolla/Civic with driver included.

Driving in Lahore is tons of fun (not) I will most probably limit driving in fact my dad has a driver so could probably utilize that. One thing I noticed while driving last time, it's a fairly intense experience as in you can't just push the gas pedal and forget all his history. The car has to travel in spurts, you move some and then you brake some, it's a great test of reflexes.

driving in lahore is fun at times, when there r less cars. i like to take teh car to 100 km/hr on roads with little or no traffic. but u do have to keep vigilance because u can crash into a car or even a motorbike, at any given moment. also as i have experienced people overtake from the wrong side, and u recieve the shock of ur life. if that happens do one thing. just put ur hand on the horn and start swearing at the driver.

otherwise it is way easier to drive in lahore than in karachi.

Just heard on GEO that it is hard to buy gas. So you might not be driving at all. One problem solved. Next!
