ICC ODI rankings 31st Aug 2008

ICC ODI Championship

Team Matches Points Rating
Australia 26 3378 130
South Africa 25 2938 118
England 27 3142 116
New Zealand 21 2443 116
India 36 4051 113
Pakistan 25 2752 110
Sri Lanka 27 2838 105
West Indies 21 1994 95
Bangladesh 25 1138 46
Ireland 8 174 22
Zimbabwe 15 237 16
Kenya 3 0 0

-------------------------------------------

Australia clear ahead of the pack at the moment. Then theirs a pack of teams from S.A down to Sri lanka who are all pretty similar in quality and each team is capable of beating each other on any given day.

i can see the the number 2 spot in table changing hands numerously over next year or so as teams are so evenly matched up. Intresting to see if Australia stretch the lead or wether any one in chasing pack can close the gap

On a side note, interesting that Ireland are already on 22 points despite only recently getting ODI status - while Bangladesh have just 46 points. It would be embarrassing for Bangladesh if Ireland overtook them.

Coming back to the topic, I agree with your assessment Amjid. Hopefully Pak, with Akhtar back, will be the team that closes the gap with Aus

Well if pakistan play in tri-series in S.A. They are likely to play maybe 4 games + a possible final so they can if sucsessful move up rankings!

1. Australia 26 3378 130 2. South Africa 25 2938 118 3. England 27 3142 116 4. New Zealand 21 2443 116 5. India 36 4051 113 6. Pakistan 25 2752 110 7. Sri Lanka 27 2838 105
Interesting table.....
The difference between #1 and #2 is of 12 points (130-118=12)...... but the difference between #2 and #7 is almost exactly the same..... 13 points (118-105=13)!

Gul Yes. Akhtar Maybe. Asif No.

Guys like Rao have better stats and overall better games with both the bat and bowl. Better to let guys like Rao play, or give guys like Riaz or Sohail Khan a proper chance.

Asif may aswell retire..
