October 2008 - List your favourite players at the moment

yes it's a list thread. Who are your favourite current cricketers, for whatever reason

Mine:
Shahid Afridi - I only listed him out of fear
Shoaib Akhtar - because he can still hit 150kph
Mohammad Zahid (if he's still playing) - the fastest ever
Humayun Farhat - he has a batswing as heavy as the titanic
Misbah Ul Haq - classy, classy batsman
Dolar Mahmud - because of his name
Rao Iftikhar Anjum - because of his magnificent and imperial gap in between his teeth
Farveez Maharoof - because of his stately panache
Shaun Tait - because I can actually visualise him murdering a batsman with his deliveries
Sohail Khan - looks like he may be a 150kph regular
Aziz Cheema - because he recently hit 92.5mph
Mohammad Talha - because he recently hit 146kph

Ooh I forgot Nazir

Imran Nazir - because he and Afridi would make the most truly violent opening partnership on mother earth, as South Africa once tasted in Sharjah

Are U kidding me...most would put Younus above Misbah in terms of his ability to play spin; century on debut against Murali at his peak; one trillion runs against Javelin thrower/In Swinger spin duo from across the border etc. etc.

Infact, IMO, He plays the spinners so well that most of them give up before even bowling a ball to him!

I have a list in the depths of my mind but at the moment, I am trying to organize and channel my thoughts into selecting the number one player I love in the world. The thing is, it's turning out to be a quite fiercely contested battle between the following extraordinary magicians: Sunil Joshi, Shib Shankar Paul, Ata-ur-Rehman, and Farveez Maharoof. With a lot going for all of them, including the aggressive and burly mustaches of the two Indians, the grace and eloquence positively emitting from Ata and his bowling action, and the general serenity that gently accompanies Farveez, this could prove to be a decision which has massive alteration and impact on my life.

I'll get back to you guys on this one.

Ricky Ponting - just the class of the man with the bat

Misbah Ul Haq - prince consistent... what a legend...

Micheal Hussey - if misbah is prince consistent.. hussey is King consistent...

Andrew Flintoff - what a great bowler when on song... bounce, swing, seam he's got it all

Kevin Pietersen - makes brutality look classy...

Mohammad Yousuf - Classiest batsman in the game right now period.

Hashim Amla - Mohammad Yousuf Version 2 ...

lastly...

Younis Khan - I think the En"Y"gma montage says it all

I'm awfully sorry but you have uncovered a glaring error in my post, and for that I offer apologies from the depths of my heart, the trough of my lungs and the roof of my soul.

His Eminence, Dr Sunil Joshi

Not only does he regale us with an intoxicating moustache that one may understandably mistake for the carpets of Buckingham, but his operatic baritone voice indicates bronchi and a trachea of quite a pristine caliber. One wistful gaze into his eyes evokes a paternal desire in all but the lifeless of hearts.

The Right Honorable Shib Shankar Paul

Cricinfo informs us that this delightful sprout is also known as "Buro". How adorably cute! But dear reader allow me to be frightfully plain. I, would be most averse...most averse to being the recipient of any act on his behalf, as the order of probability is quite high that it would be an act of crime and that it would involve the deed of submerging part of my being into a solid, the outcome of which would be my breathing through a tube and communication only through signals of the eyes.

1) Shahid Afridi: overshadows everyone else when he is playing from any side in the world.
2) Shahid Afridi: extreme passion and aggression
3) Shahid Afridi: Brutal Hitting, can take any bowler in the world to cleaners on a given day.
4) Shahid Afridi: coz he hit bhajji for consecutive 4 6's (i wish it was six 6's), bhajji couldn't find his line & length for at least two following years after that incident.
5) Shahid Afridi: brutal & agricultural hitting in Kanpur ODI
6) Shahid Afridi: puts wave of fear in every bowler's spine when he is on the crease
7) Shahid Afridi: Favorite Shot: anywhere for sixer
8) Shahid Afridi: turning to right path after couple of notorious scandals
9) Shahid Afridi: unanimous way of celebration after getting a wicket
10) Shahid Afridi: for wearing #10 (LOL)
11) Ramesh Powar: Unique character in cricket fraternity

Shahid Afridi - No words can describe the elegance with which he disposes of opposition team players. :romeo Went missing last night.
Shoaib Malik - Impressed by this guy even more, everyone on PP hates him, but I like him.
Fawad Alam - The next best thing to Afridi in a Pakistani outfit.
Salman Butt - No doubt he would be in the top ten batsmen in the world (after Afridi at 1), if we played matches nowadays.
Shoaib Akhtar - I find the beer gut attractive.
Misbah Ul Haq - Keeps cracking sixes.
Sohail Khan - Still I believe to be afflicted with malaria, scares other players.
Mohammad Aamer - Wasim likes him, so i Likes him.
Imran Nazir - Without a doubt, my favorite opener after Salman =D this guy got dropped after scoring a 160

Dear friend, I think you are quite frightfully mistaken, when it comes to the case of Sunil Bandachara Joshi, 38 years 126 days.

His gargantuan fan base includes only the most prominent of society, including expecting mothers, those few and far between fathers with quiet souls of gentle feel, and children, with their innocent, cherished stares and playful laughing from the mouth region. Professor Joshi, however, regards his fan-base as the most incumbent specimens to reside the grains of our world, for he rightfully despises all but the beauty queens hailing from the delightful little town of Galag.

When asked for an autograph, Professor Joshi in a moment of rash indifference, promptly slapped the expecting mother across her rather plump face, creating a quite hostile and intimidating reaction from the youthful of the crowd that enveloped them. Luckily for Joshi and his humble fan-base, Joshi appeared unscathed and unhurt.

I have listed quite a few specimens of understandably high quality here in this thread of the millennium, but have finally settled on my calculated and well-though choice for the majestic position of numero uno. And that man is...

1) Mohammad Farveez Maharoof, the most princely king of a gentleman, the one with the most prominent and attractive cheekbones the world has had the privelige to see. It is said that Maharoof, with passion, employs manners of a quite incredulous nature.. as he soothes the pain of the heart with serenades dating back to the 30's as well as pretty back massages, intending to heat up the general collar-bone region, with his tender yet solid and reliable limb-fingers. When asked who the love of his life was, he blushed, blinked his eyes rather rapidly, and elegantly stated, "I can only have love for my mother", a quite fitting description for this benevolent ruler of bourgeoisie society. When asked to pick and choose between models of a most scandalous nature, Farveez's cheeks drifted to the bright color of shocking pink, and as his gently blow-dried hair ruffled with the wind, he linked arms with his choice and galloped of in the sunset.

I decided to choose 1 from each country:

SA - G Smith (leads from the front, aggressive)
Aus - M Hussey (mr. cricket)
Eng - Flintoff (fierce competitor, pieterson to saffer to be english!!)
WI - Chanderpaul (difficult to dislodge)
SRI - Murali (easy decision, love his eyes when he bats!!!!)
IND - Sachin (Class act)
PAK - Akhtar (dunno, just do!!)
NZ - Vettori (only decent player)
