DISASTER: 'I'm raring to go at the Kotla' - Kumble Grandpa

Link: http://content-ind.cricinfo.com/indv...ry/374963.html

Anil Kumble, India's Test captain, is confident of returning for the third Test against Australia in Delhi, after sitting out the second game in Mohali due to a shoulder injury. Kumble said it was unfortunate he could not be part of the combination which achieved India's biggest Test win in terms of runs - 320 - and that he was looking forward to returning to the Feroz Shah Kotla where he has taken 55 wickets in six games.

"It was very heartening to see MS [Dhoni] lead from the front and it was fantastic to watch the way the team approached the game and the intensity we kept up throughout," Kumble wrote in his syndicated newspaper column. "And while I unfortunately had to sit this one out, I'm raring to get going at the Kotla, my favourite Test centre."

Kumble had a forgettable outing in the first match in Bangalore, going wicketless for only the third time in his Test career. He reacted strongly to media criticism about his captaincy, form, and fitness, and insisted he would return once fully fit.

Kris Srikkanth, the new chairman of selectors, agreed that Kumble had a good chance of returning for the Test, starting on October 29. "I'm very confident he will play," Srikkanth told ABC Radio. "One of the reasons he probably didn't play this (Mohali) match was so that he gets proper rest for the next two Tests."

Kumble's return, however, could come at the expense of the legspinner Amit Mishra, who took seven wickets on debut. Kumble was very impressed with Mishra's use of flight and variations.

"With an eye to the future, it also augurs well for India that we've found someone like Amit," Kumble wrote. "An orthodox bowler, he spins the ball a lot, uses his flight very nicely and frankly, it was great watching him. The first five-for I got told me that if I could get one, I could get more. Confidence is critical. As Amit's five-for has come in his first game itself against Australia, it's even better for him."

He said Mishra was finally being rewarded after going through the grind in eight domestic seasons. "He bowled beautifully and not just by the debutant yardstick. All the hard yards he's done as a domestic cricketer served him well here. It's incredibly tough work, the domestic circuit and Amit serves as a perfect example of what perseverance can do."

Dearest grandpa ....

Do you have the slightest of idea of your performance this year ? Ok, let me break it down for you in figures. This year so far, you average 52.16 with the ball.

Please Kumble Grandpa, have mercy on us fans. For the sake of us and the team, please quit gracefully and let Dhoni lead the team. You have been the biggest and heaviest baggage for team India this year. You are freaking 38 years old !!!!

Under your brilliant captaincy, India were all out for about 76 in the 1st Test vs South Africa, and managed to lose it with humiliation. In the 2nd Test, Dhoni lead the team and we defeated the South Africans black & blue. In the Sri Lankan Test series, we lost it comprehensively under your captaincy. Now, in the 1st Test you couldn't even take 1 wicket in both the innings. In the 2nd Test, once again Dhoni lead the team and we won without your absence.

Have mercy on us Grandpa, please quit cricket and leave the team and us in peace.

I can't even explain in words how I feel right now. If it were someone else's computer, I would have smashed the monitor right on Kumble grandpa's head so that he remains injured for some more time.

I feel so bad for dissing Kumble here, he has been such a great servant for India but at the same time it feels so painful to have a thought of distrubing the current winning combination.

Why don't people appreciate players. Kumble has been a great servant to your nation why not appreciate him for the final two tests. In all honesty I think we will not be seeing him beyond this test series. Give the guy a nice send off.

Could you forward this to Kumble please? If this doesn't crumble his steely resolve to drown India's chances of winning, then nothing will...

How about a boot in the rear which lands him safely and nicely in a haystack somewhere in the suburbs of Bangaluru.

Very poor comment from Kumble.
Putting additional pressure on the selection committee.
If they dont select him now, the Indian public will MURDER the selectors.

that's pathetic if the Indian selectors decide to pick him... they are basing their decision on his name and his past performance... Mishra is in form and he's will have the Aussies on the backfoot facing him if he gets selected... but unfortunately past performances carry a big factor in how Subcontinent teams pick their players...

Aussie fans, would you like to trade Katich for Kumble ? Think about it, you don't have any great spinner at the moment. As for us, we don't even need to think of anything. We'll happily trade Kumble for Katich and make him the 12th man.

Well if you go by history.......there are hardly any series where Australia has been trailing, let alone making a comeback.

Kumble the spinner is not a worry for India but Kumble the batsman and Kumble the Captain is a worry for India.....having said that....he has done so much for India and he deserves 2 more tests....why can't we play 3 spinners @ Kotla???

apparently the curator said, "Kotla pitch will be a gift to Kumble" ....so 3 spinner option should be good...
