Things you always wanted to know but were too shy to ask

Do you have these peculiar mysteries that (apparently) are not mysterious to anybody else but yourself. If so, this is the place to ask.

I will start with this:

Exactly how did 'ownage' universally become 'pwnage'? And why???

I once posted on asking what 'Pwnage' meant Someone said ''ownage'

I then asked what that meant....

My guess is that it's the same phonetically as "pwned" but shorter and thus easier to type for the time-intolerant World of Warcraft-absorbed Ritalin-ed kid

Well let me fill you in, not literally

Its was a typo in a japenese video game (japanese games are famous for their hilarious english translations e.g. All your base are belong to us).... so when ever you killed a guy in that video game, the message pwned instead of owned was displayed on the screen, thats how the the term caught on in the internet gaming community and is now commonly used online.

Certain parts of this description might not be 100 percent accurate but its very close to what actually happened.

What do sight screens do? I have been watching cricket for a long time but i have never ever understood the issue of sight screens. Why do batsman have to have them moved everytime they face upto a different bowler? Or a bowler bowling from a different angle?

Batsmen can sometimes "lose" the ball in the background, without a distinctly different coloured background in the background. Like, thats why the sightscreen is black when ball is white, so you can immediately pick the ball up. Say there were no sightscreens, batsmen may "lose" the ball, if someone in the crowd is wearing the same colors as the ball.
I am making you very confuse no? :younis

In third world countries they are used to protect the batsman from contaminated air which is why batsmen have to have them moved every time wind changes direction. To the untrained eye the requests appear to follow change in bowlers angle because the bowlers also happen to change their angle depending on the direction of the wind.

That's very simple. Because he is - by a long way.
In fact, the greatest in the world.

The combination of these two gentlemen alone is enough to make Burman the best composer/music director in the world (even if his other work is not considered for a moment):

RDB hasn't a patch on Ravi, Nashaad, Khurshid Anwar or Naushad. Personally I think RDB was fortunate to be composing during a period which marked the downturn in quality of playback music.

Have heard them all. Here's how I rate them:

Khursheed Anwar: Very very good. Undoubtedly the most original composer of Indo-Pak. I am a huge fan. Comes very close to RD (but RD was more talented and had much more variety). His music is still very new (I listen to him on a daily basis).

Nashaad: One of the better Pakistani MDs (but way inferior to K Anwar and Rasheed Attre). Internationally speaking, quite low on the list. As far as I am concerned, comparison with RD is a bit of a joke.

Naushad: Another very good and original MD. The biggest minus: lack of variety again. Some of his songs are undoubtedly masterpieces, but overall a long way below RD.

Ravi: Composed a few good Rafi songs, but he is the most monotonous composer among those you mentioned. Too many sad, philosophical, saadhu type songs, and very little else. No comparison with RD.

So out of the four you listed, only Khursheed Anwar comes close. Three others that I rate very highly (and you didn't mention) are:

S D Burman: Almost as good as RD. In some ways even better. Overall a very close second.

Shankar Jaikishan and A R Rehman: Very close joint third (with Khursheed Anwar).

So my list goes like this:
1. R D Burman
2. S D Burman
3. Khursheed Anwar, Shankar Jaikishan, A R Rehman

My next question (couldn't figure this one out even after long deliberations):

Why people who perspire a lot, who drink a lot of water in one go, or who are insomniacs, are proud of the fact?

Are these things some sort of achievement? Why do they expect appreciation (and possibly a pension) from others (who obviously don't give a damn)?

Things you have always wanted to know but too embarassed to ask?

I am sure that there are many things that you have seen in life which have triggered questions or made no sense. Here is your opportunity to ask whilst hiding behind a keyboard!

I shall start with the Rocky Movies.

In the first two Rocky movies, Sylvester Stallone gets slapped on the stomach by a trainer whilst he does situps. How does this benefit him?

i dno bout a slap, but my trainer drops a medicine ball on my stomach after each sit up. this is to make sure that the abs are tensed at all times because usually when u go back to the lying down position the muscles relax. if you stop them from relaxing it increases the intensity of the workout, it also gets u used to taking blows to the ribs. hope that answerd your question.

I have heard him. He is absolutely brilliant at times but has done very little work to date. While I am all for quality over quantity but still you need to have a certain amount of quantity as well before being compared with maestros.

In cricketing terms, he has a brilliant average of 75 but has only played two Test matches. Time will tell.

Unfortunatly the current state the Indian Music Industry is in u might not see much more of Ismail Darbar or any decent composer. All the music seems to be bang bang type of music.
