Gunman 'requests Pakistan help'

A couple of reports on developments in the Indo-Pak tension emanating from Pranab Mukherjees' address to around 120 Indian ambassadors and heads of mission: (don't know if these have been posted already)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/go/homepage/d/i...ia/7796381.stm

Quote:
India says the sole surviving gunman from last month's Mumbai (Bombay) attacks has sought help from Pakistan.

The request came in a letter handed to Pakistani diplomats in Delhi.

Mohammed Ajmal Amir Qasab, who is in Indian custody, admitted in the letter that he and the other attackers were from Pakistan, Indian officials said.
Is that the best the Indians could come up with? Pretty lame effort. Where is the substantive evidence India? We have 9 dead terrorists with no evidence to link them back to Pakistan save for the words of the only surviving terrorist who coincidentally was the only one caught clearly on Mumbai's CCTV cameras.

The above is from the same meeting trying to put more diplomatic pressure on Pakistan

Quote:
Militant groups in Pakistan are "the greatest danger to peace and security in the entire world", India's foreign minister has said.

Pranab Mukherjee accused Islamabad of "denial" and "shifting the blame" for last month's deadly Mumbai attacks.
Quote:
He added: "While we continue to persuade the international community and Pakistan we are also clear that ultimately it is we who have to deal with this problem. We will take all measures necessary as we deem fit to deal with this situation."

It's funny, you would think that they would come up with claims that people would fall for more easily. Seriously though, he came there to die. Why in the world would he want help from Pakistan government (i.e. why would he want help so that he could live longer), and why would he tell where he's from? Indian public falls for this non-sense, and then flame us when we don't believe these childish stories.

He's allegedly Pakistani and he's allegedly from Faridkot in Punjab province. We knew this on Nov 27th: Here's the live text service report that the BBC were running (entry at 15:29 on Wed 27th):

Quote:
1529 A senior Indian army officer, Maj Gen RK Huda, tells local TV stations that he believes there are 10 to 12 combatants in total at the two hotels and at Nariman House. One man has been arrested, he says. Gen Huda says the security services believe the gunmen were "from across the border and perhaps from Faridkot, Pakistan". "They tried to pretend that they were from Hyderabad," he says. "Intercepts show terrorists speaking in Punjabi," he adds.

They're doing a pretty bad job at it. He went there to die, not to get help later on.
