SL to face hard time in Test series: Malik

KARACHI: Dismissed Pakistan Captain Shoaib Malik dispelled the impressions that host Pakistan does not have enough resources to offer Sri Lanka challenge in two Test match series starting from February 21.

“Though we will be playing test match after nearly 15 months but Pakistan team is capable of offering a challenge to the Lankan,” he told media in an interview on Wednesday. “Salman Butt, Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis are all experienced batsmen.

He said the trio have proved themselves at the test level in the past and they are for sure will be looking forward to give their best in the test series. “I will be fully behind Younis to deliver my best in all department,” he added.

He expressed the hope that it will be an exciting series against the Lankans not one sided as feared in some section of the press

Does that mean he'll be batting at 4 or that he'll be standing behind Younis when the fans start throwing fruit and custard pies at them if they lose?

Give it a rest. He wasn't a good captain but is a good player. He's been kicked far too much.

I wonder if he would have made the statement as a captain. It puts unnecessary pressure on captain. Mcgrath opened his mouth because he could do it himself. He has vouched for 3 batsmen lol. But he is not vouching for himself.

Maliks not an auto-pick for tests so will have to fight for his place.

Unlike some other "character" who has does not warrant a place in the squad, let alone the actual playing 11, but continues to be selected because of his perceived "talent" and to date very little or no justification thereof.

Alot has been said about what malik was going to say / do after his "axing". So far, nothing but compliments and his die hard attitude for pakistan.

He is way more mature than many of the so called "seniors" in the side.

The truth about what actually happened behind the scenes is slowly starting to emerge.

Oh yeah? I don't see anyone pushing him for his spot in the current Pak set up..unless you have some "extremely talented" uncapped batsman that Pakistan is famous for in your mind..

He may not have been the brightest tool in the drawer but has been one of Pakistan's best bats in the recent past.Played brilliantly in the Asia Cup and the Abu Dhabi series vs WI.

Does every single thread have to have a go at Afridi? Give it a rest.

At least Malik is being civil about this whole thing, I hope that if he plays, he'll play without the considerable burden he was carrying(seen by all) as captain.

Asim Kamal, fawad alam, Saeed Bin nasir, Umar Amin are to name a few all players
who could fill up spots in pakistans middle order.

Malik has done well in patches for pakistan but is not a full proven test player.

exactly

this is test cricket so why dont we go for players who have good domestic first class credentials (4 day games)?

malik averages 29 and fawad averages 57, almost double. it doesnt matter if malik is an "established" player because it is hard for someone like him to establish himself in Test cricket.

i dont see his utility in the middle order because there are better players like fawad alam who should be used. malik has done OK in the top order but he is not a future test prospect. if we can dare play 2 or 3 uncapped players in this series why not go for another uncapped player and try and find a world class batsman rather than giving chances to ordinary players like malik?

three of these players, while their pedigree is in no doubt are "unproven test players"
asim kamal - doesnt neccessarily compete with malik he can play - if paksitan play 6 batsmen (malik inclusive), one wicket keeper, 4 specialist bowlers......
personally i would rather that pakistan plays 4 specialist bowlers and one allrounder (....as in a real allrounder, like arafat) and drops on the batsman in which case kamal would go...since malik's been palying internatioanl cricekt longer and his form againt sl is the best of the lot at the moment (second highest scorer in the one-day series i think)

To suggest a player should be picked like some have above because he has a good record against one team is poor. Pakistan need to think long term and not just look at a persons record against one specfic team.

Un-proven players cant prove themselves if they arent picked cant they?

Its not rocket science, pick some newbies and see how they go!

And that is why he said :

Quote:
