Who is currently the Second best spinner in test cricket?

Taken as read tha Murali is numero uno, there seems to be a shortage of high quality spinners around in test cricket at the moment with the majority being decent rather than spectatcular match winners.

Who in your opinion is currently the second best spin bowler in test cricket and why have you voted for that player?

Wrist spin, finger spin is a dying art across world cricket. The likes of Warne, Mushy, Saqlain, Kumble, Murali Helped revive it during the 90s and learly 2000.

Mendis looks like he will be a quality test Bowler, Vettori and Saqibul Hasan from what ive seen are the only others worth mentioning.

The rest are a mixture of average bowlers or pie floaters!

Vettori because he's maintained it for much longer then Mendis who we are basing our thoughts on a few performances.

Plus Vettori brings so much more... he can bat and captain a team. Plus he's a top notch catcher. Man, now that I think about it what can't Vettori do well??

They are just asking for the best spinner, not all rounder or best catcher!!!

I agree with Amjid. The only ones on that list that are current international quality (based on historical spinner level) are (aside from Murali) Mendis and probably Vettori and Saint Harby. The rest are pie chuckers and buffet bowlers.

Ajantha Mendis is the best ATM according to me. Followed by Muralitharan, Daniel Vettori and Shakib.

Harbhajan and Mishra are so-so but the rest are rubbish, they might have one good match but fail to perform consistently. The worst of the lot are Panesar and Patel. Kaneria I believe still has some potential but still should have been performing much better by now.

I've been impressed with Paul Harris, to be honest, he has done really well as a containing bowler. As a Nottinghamshire and England fan I've also enjoyed Graeme Swann's late arrival to Test Cricket, performing in two countries traditionally poorly suited to spin, particularly orthodox spin, in India and the West Indies. I feel that the Mendis hype has overtaken the reality and that his recent showings have hinted at a few players discovering that the legend is greater than the reality. Not to say he's in any way less than good, just that the proof shall be in longevity. Personally, I voted for Shakib who has turned in excellent performances, including a brilliant effort in South Africa, in a poor side. His bowling has come on loads.

Daniel Vettori is very over-rated. I enjoy his all-round game and admire him as a cricketer, but he's an average, containing spin bowler.

Vettori sucks, his batting is good but as a spinner he is good for odi's, slight variations isnt going to get u anywher in tests, and stats how bad he is against good teams in tests..

No one other than Murali. Mendis we will see 15 tests later. I think Harbhajan for me as the best of the lot with 25+ tests.
Vettori - 90 tests and 290 wickets with a strike rate of over 70 is not a good stat for a good full time bowler. One can say so he bowls 1-2 more overs compared to others and perhaps acceptable. He can contain and does better in ODIs as ER is important

I know Harbhajan is not the most liked person around here, but personal bias should not get in way of rating a bowler. Mendis is undoubtedly the most talented bowler in that list. But he has a long way to go before he can be compared with bowlers who have 300+ test scalps.

When on song, Harbhajan is one of the top wicket-taking bowlers and has troubled great batsmen. Vettori is a really good ODI bowler but just isn't up there in tests. The rest are not consistent enough and donot possess enough variety to trouble top batsmen.

There are hardly any quality spinner apart from Muralitharan who is nearing the retirement.
Mendis is what earns my vote at the moment and even though he has long way to go but he is talented spinner and we know he will be the next Muralitharan for sure. The rest aren't even close. Vettori and Harbajjan are finest spinner but not exactly the best spinner in Test.

I would go with sunlight. there is murli at first place right now, then sun light, followed by a trail of garbage, which comprises of the who's who of tweakers.

additionally murli isnt the same bowler he was when warne was around. may be the absence of competition took his edge away.

How can you possibly rate him lol! I mean seriously people that call him quality test spinners have low standards, yes he's done well against Australia but the matter of the fact is he averages 38.61 outside India...... I rest my case.
