PP Exclusive : Yasir Ali - "Ajmal's action is clean"

I’ve just been speaking to Yasir Ali of KRL predominantly about Saeed Ajmal and him being reported to the ICC for a suspect action.

Yasir has played alongside Saeed Ajmal at KRL for a few years and has seen him bowling at close quarters in domestic cricket and of course during practice sessions and has also played against him a number of times in various forms of the game at domestic level.

Yasir stated that he feels that Saeed’s action is totally clean and added that he has been playing domestic cricket for in excess of 10 years and has never had any suspicions raised about his bowling action from either umpires or opponents.

Yasir went on and said that its disappointing that when some Asian cricketers come up against certain teams, suspicions are raised. It’s not just about the suspicions being raised, but the way they are raised that is very disappointing.

Yasir added that Saeed has done a tremendous amount of hard work at the Academy with Aaqib Javed in improving his bowling and looking at the technical aspects of his bowling especially at his action and the way his feet were landing. Some of the work he has done at the Academy has been very unorthodox but has really benefitted his game.

Yasir also stated that Saeed Ajmal has played league cricket in the UK for a number of years and has never been reported for his bowling action.

Yasir hoped that the situation regarding Saeed was sorted very quickly as Saeed could be one of the stars for Pakistan at the twenty/20 World Cup.

Didnt Ajmals action come under scrutiny in Pakistan first and the reasons the selectors dropped him from the squad that went to Canada was because they felt his action was suspect.

With all due respect, Yasir Ali's word, as sincere as it may be, cannot be considered to be the final word on this.

Let Ajmal be cleared by the ICC and then we can shut everyones mouth for good.

Agreed with MIG here. Good for Yasir to come out in support of ajmal, but better to only get excited once the results are in from the approved biomechanics lab.

Also, just to add. If there is a suspicion or if there is a hint that he will have a few issues with his action in future, it's better to resist selecting him. Let's face it, he's no spring chicken and not exactly a destroyer like murali for us to spend time and energy fighting his corner for years like we did with shabbir. Better to use this opportunity to blood a youngster. If I had my way, Usman Qadir should be in the team already!

Right .. perhaps if we got Yasir Australian citizenship the ICC might take his view into consideration.

Would that help, dont the BCCI dictate what the ICC do. Or has that changed and now Australia rule the ICC.

i find it hard to believe that ajmal has never been questioned about his action in the UK or in pakistan in domestic cricket.

im not saying his action is necessarily outside the regulations [15 degrees], but if anybody doesnt have any suspicion of his action whatsoever, then they must not be as observant.

definitely a little bit to debate about in his action if you ask me. even the commentators said so against australia.

I cant say for Pak domestic cricket, but all UK leagues fall under the jurisdiction of the ECB and overseas pros operate under a lot of scrutiny when it comes to bowling actions and also discipline.

If any of the umpires had any doubts while he was in the UK playing league cricket they would have definitely reported him.
