Im sure everyone was anticipating the series greatly since the ashes are a side show to them. Poor Bangladesh, they keep getting almost every series canceled.

Yes - although they tend to do the boycotting though in some of those instances!!!

Bangladesh may or may not find a way to lose the series, but Bangladesh does deserve some cricket. This news is not really helping Bangladesh Cricket at all. I feel really bad for Bangladesh fans. I can understand their feeling after we have gone through the similar circumstance in 2008. I hope for the sense prevail.

actually BCB issued a press release recently in which they've stated that they are in "constant" contact with the PCB to re-schedule the postponed series. in all likelyhood it will occur later this year, or whenever pakistan is free.

the series that was cancelled was done (whether rightly or wrongly) on the heels of the biggest internal security situation in the nation's history. again, it may have been a dumb move in hindsight, but the BCB cannot be blamed for trying to safeguard the security of pakistani players.

the U19 series that was cancelled was cancelled by the PCB on "security" issues, despite the fact that the Sri Lankan academy side toured BD successfully without getting shot at.

loyalty is something which people like you should remove from their lexicons...

I doubt that Bangladesh would win this series since it has been in a sad state of affairs in cricket anyway. So boycotting is just going to be doing the same as bangladesh losing the series anyway.

The timing is curious though. The Windies players had no trouble seeing out the cash rich India series, and as soon as it finished suddenly their contract situation became unacceptable. Obviously they have no qualms about snubbing the not-as-lucrative Bangladesh series. It says a lot about their character.

Then again, every board, organization, and institution involved in international cricket these days is guilty of the same...

By the way, whether the BCB deserves it or not, we of all people should show some sympathy. we know what it is like to be snubbed and marginalized, and no country should suffer that. The comments of some above are appalling. Regardless of what the BCB has done to us, the Windies should honor their contractual commitments, sort their mess out, and not have to cause other boards to suffer.

You guys are better than us. All 8 nations. If you don't let us play you we will never improve just by playing domestic cricket. If that is the case, I would want ICC to revoke our test status and come out with clear concious that South Asia has one less representative at the highest level.

Enjoy the ashes. That what the cricket world deserve. I hope next time instead of 2.5 months they make the tour 5 months. We listened in the radio 3 decades ago. We can do that again.

Apparently the series has not been cancelled and will still go on as planned.

The WICB has called up uncer 19 players i think so if its not a full strngth side, it'll be.......a side.

If the series does go ahead, it'll be Bangladesh's best chance to beat a 'top' side....well you ever know!

^^ If that's the case, that'll make it a very interesting series. The 3-day match against West Indies 'A' could have been a nail-biter had it been the full 5 days.

Hey, Don't get too upset now.

I know a few of BD fans and know that you guys love your cricket. Hopefully you can get a decent series soon and hope you guys improve a lot.

I would really want Pakistan to tour BD soon and I know almost all Pakistani Fans would have wanted that. It's just that when BD cancelled the tour earlier, we fans were really looking forward to any series where we can see Pakistan play, but the cancellation looked more like a say from BCCI than anything else and than not supporting us for the World Cup venues just confirmed that status more.

But I am sure BCB and PCB ties will be normal soon as they both know who their friends and foes are. And so hopefully we can have a series soon.

maybe...we don't know what carrot and stick BCCI is holding over our heads. but ask yourselves this, and this isn't aimed at you but at the other unreasonable posters here:

BCCI dictates to ECB, CA, and the ICC. PCB just waged a futile battle over world cup hosting rights...who is the BCB to defy the BCCI and come up without any harm?

you do realize that the BCCI claims the exact same thing: that we have test status because the BCCI allows us to have it. i don't know if thats true or not, but if it was between the PCB and the BCCI, i'd imagine the BCCI has more muscle on what goes on in the world of international cricket.

But how many times has Bangladesh come to tour India? Why do India always defer this tour?

The game will go on.

Quote:
West Indies are preparing to field a second-string team in the first Test against Bangladesh on Thursday following a boycott by the West Indies Players' Association (WIPA). Cricinfo understands that 11 players have arrived in St Vincent and trained at the Arnos Vale Ground on Wednesday afternoon.

Sources say the players to have so far arrived include Darren Sammy, who was part of the recent ICC World Twenty20, alongside Dale Richards and Nelon Pascal who were in the squad to tour England before that tournament. Tino Best, the fast bowler, is also believed to have been included along with former top-order batsman Floyd Reifer, who now plays his cricket for the Combined Colleges and Campus team in the West Indies domestic tournament.

Kemar Roach, who has played two ODIs and one Twenty20 international, is another player expected to play while the other names are: Omar Phillips, Travis Dowlin, Cadwick Walton, Ryan Austin and Kevin McClean. Four more players are due to arrive from Jamaica to bolster the squad ahead of the Test. Kraigg Brathwaite, the prolific 16-year-old batsman, is a name being suggested as a possible call-up

Possible West Indies squad Omar Phillips, Dale Richards, Floyd Reifer, Travis Dowlin, Cadwick Walton, Darren Sammy, Kemar Roach, Ryan Austin, Tino Best, Kevin McClean, Nelon Pascal

It is saddening to see Bangladesh being treated this way by the Windies players. It is very obvious that they were waiting to get done with the lucrative Indian tour before boycotting matches.

On the other hand I think this will make for a much more competitive series as a full strength Windies would have found it easire to beat an underachieving test side like Bangladesh.

Here's my prediction of what the West Indies side is going to look like for tomorrow's match :

1.Omar Philips
2.Adrian Barath
3.Floyd Reifer
4.Dale Richards
5.Travis Dowlin
6.Chadwick Walton / Devon Thomas (w/k)
7.Ryan Austin
8.Darren Sammy (c)
9.Tino Best
10.Nelon Pascal / Kevin McClean
11.Kemar Roach

Tino Best, Adrian Barath and Kemar Roach are the players i'm most looking forward to watching play.

That doesn't show anything. People are arguing that BCB is a puppet of BCCI but this is how they are treated. Continuously shafted.

In WI this happens every year or so. They were going to boycott the last ODI against England too earlier this year but then a day or two before the match they came with "hum khailian gay" and match went on

Would this boycott have happened if it was India instead ?

ICC should step in fine teams for not keeping up their commitments.

Wi players got a big raise (domestic and international) couple of months ago reported by cricinfo or BBC. I think some of the top players initiate this, some of the ones who became millionaires by Stanford match and also have IPL contracts. They know WI team is weak so they demand.

banga's best chance of winning a series in the windies

and i say fair game to them

you can only play teh opposition and whoever they decide to feild

a test win is still a test win - irrespective of the players involved
