Thirty-seven-year-old bodybuilder Aamir Rahim Bux has been nominated to participate in the World Championship Title in Musclemania 2009, but his aspirations of bringing laurels back to his country remain hinged on financial support from the government.

Bux, the owner of a small gym, said that the overall expenditure of the trip, including diets plans and transport, is Rs1.2 million, which he cannot afford. The competition is scheduled for November 20-21 2009, and Bux believes that the most exhilarating feeling at the event would be the Pakistani anthem being played on a world bodybuilding stage. The event is being organised by the American Sports Network, INC - a California based corporation – which specialises in sports and fitness events. Every year, they produce ESPN Musclemania World Championship and world class natural bodybuilders from around the world are hand-picked to compete for the title.

“When I was contacted by the American Sports Network, I was very optimistic about the support from the government but sadly it has been more than two months since I have received the invitation and have been preparing on my own expenses. Had it been cricket or any other common sport, I wouldn’t have faced any problems,” he said.

“I am running out of expenses and there is no support from the government”, he said. “There are 100 bodybuilders participating from 100 different countries, and all of them are being entirely sponsored by their respective associations and governments. However, in my case there has been no response from the authorities”.

He maintained that contacting the Pakistani Body Builders Association (PBBA) for assistance was of no use, as they themselves had no funds. A local television channel also tried to get the sports ministry on air regarding the matter, but no one was available for comment.

Belonging to the city of Loralai, Balochistan, Bux is the first Pakistani bodybuilder selected to compete for the world title, and has been training and maintaining a strict diet plan in the hope that he will eventually depart for the US to participate in the event. “I have been body building for the past 22 years and finally now I have the opportunity to make my country proud. Many bodybuilders from Pakistan have qualified for the Mr Asia title and some have even won it, but for the first time, Pakistan will be represented in the World Championship”, Bux told The News.

Bux’s ultimate goal has always been to represent Pakistan internationally. While his early years were utilised in learning the tactics of body building, he spent the last ten years teaching youngsters in Karachi the nuances of body building and fitness training.
But now Karachi City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has announced that Karachi City government will bear all the expenses of Bux competing in USA.

What is the World title? Mr Olymipa or Mr World or Mr Universe?

Adnan Qureshi at Mr World

Atif Anwer - musclemaina universe

and there was another one who had an interview posted on youtube. He went to Mr World or Olympia and came 6th.

To me this should be done with their sponsors which can be health/muscle products or gym equipment. Sure some exceptions can be made when you are on top but this is a very expensive sport with the diet and gym for years to get there. Not something governemtn will want to promote as an activity instead of playing sports
