The end of ryan giggs

Well after what ferguson has said that ryan giggs is not an automatic choice anymore (http://footballmsn.skysports.com/lis...el=premiership)
and ji sung park starting to make a mark at manchester united i think this is the end of ryan giggs reign on the left wing at manchester united. He has been a good servent for man utd for over a decade (i think) but age is starting to take a toll on him. Goodbye mr giggs

Ryan Giggs is desperate to get a run-out in Manchester United's trip to Debrecen.

The Welsh winger has been a frustrated spectator so far this season, as a chest infection has forced him out of contention.

Giggs has had to watch new signing Park Ji-sung impress on the left wing while Cristiano Ronaldo still shows flashes of brilliance when involved.

Giggs is now desperate to taste competitive action as United travel to Budapest in their UEFA Champions League third round qualifier with a 3-0 cushion.

"Hopefully, I will be involved in some capacity," Giggs told MUTV.

"I haven't had the best of times because after doing all the pre-season work, and playing in four or five games, I then spent ten days in bed ill.

"Thankfully, I have started training again now, but I need to start playing games and getting involved again."

31-year-old Giggs knows he faces a stiff task getting a regular place in Sir Alex Ferguson's side, but believes the competition is healthy for the squad.

"It is only healthy for the club as a whole that we have so many players fighting for places.

"If you are not doing your job, someone else can come in and do it instead.

"It is not about 12 or 13 players anymore, it is about 18 or 20. There are lots of games to play so we are going to need everyone fit and sharp."

Another player hoping for extended playing time is John O'Shea, who is due to pen a new four-year deal at Old Trafford.

The Irish stopper was linked with moves to Newcastle United and Celtic during the summer but he insists he never wanted to leave The Red Devils.

"I never wanted to go anywhere," said O'Shea.

"I couldn't do anything about the speculation really. I suppose I could have come out and said something but I couldn't see the point because I knew I wanted to stay.

"Thankfully, everything has been agreed now, it is just a question of signing it all up."

Ferguson's men have maximum points from their opening two games but the manager has not ruled out making late additions before the close of the transfer window.

"We are thinking about it," said Ferguson. "There is nothing to say at this moment in time but we are looking at the situation

Sir Alex Ferguson is considering the idea of employing Ryan Giggs in a more advanced role to make the most of the Welshman's speed in his later years.

Giggs, who signed a two-year extension at Old Trafford this summer, will be 32 in November, and Ferguson says expecting him to work up and down the left wing every week is unrealistic.

The Welshman has made 635 appearances for the Reds and will make the first appearance of his 15th season with United against Debreceni in Budapest on Wednesday night.

With Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Park Ji-sung now offering Ferguson alternatives on the flanks, the requirements on Giggs have changed.

"Ryan is only 31 and he can still do great things for us," said Sir Alex, emphasising his importance to the side.

"Whether he will be going up and down the left wing every week is another matter. He can play in other positions and maybe his later years will be spent up front, operating behind the main striker.

"He has done that many times in the past and that role could be the best way of conserving his speed and energy."
