scam pay out

AFTER a two-and-a-half year battle for justice a North Manchester family have got back their life saving they claim was taken from them by a property company.
The sum of £13,500 has been placed back into the account of the Choudry family, apparently by the Gilani Housing Corporation who they invested with after reading lavish advertisements featuring luxury Lahore housing development.
The Choudrys decided to put down the money as a deposit on one of the new homes. But as the months went by and they heard nothing the Choudrys became more and more concerned about the safety of their investment. When they found out from the Lahore planning authorities that no permission had ever been given for the alleged development they demanded their money back.
Asian News exclusively revealed the plight of the Choudrys and other investors more than a year ago and, after we contacted the Pakistani High Commission, an investigation was launched in Pakistan.
This was conducted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) set up by President Pervez Musharraf to root out corruption.
It launched a probe into the Gilani Corporation and scores of others companies who had collected investment cash from people on the promise of luxury homes. The investigation found that many schemes were just a scams.
Said Mrs Naghat Choudry: "The last time we spoke to the corporation its boss said we would get our money back if we put it in writing we had not been cheated. But we refused to do this.
"Now suddenly the money has been put back into our account with no explanation from the Gilani Corporation. I can only assume this is the result of the NAB investigation.
"Of course we are pleased to get the money back. But it has been a long and upsetting struggle. If we had invested this in real property it would have been worth twice as much by now. It has made us very wary of any investments in the future."
The Gilani Corporation has now closed its British office. When contacted last year, a spokesman claimed they had real developments in Karachi and Islamabad and that they were fully co-operating with the government.
