Pool in for Kuyt?
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has admitted an interest in Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt, but still has more pressing needs in the transfer market.
Benitez has made no secret of his desire to bring a centre half and right winger to Anfield, with a striker his third priority. With just over a week until the transfer window slams shut, Benitez is still being linked with strikers, including Michael Owen, and he has admitted he holds Feyenoord marksman Kuyt in high regard. "Kuyt is a good striker," Benitez told the club's website. "He was top scorer in the Dutch league last season and he is a player we have been looking at. "Maybe he is cheaper than other players but we'll have to see what happens." Tottenham have been strongly linked with a move for Kuyt, despite Feyenoord being keen to retain his services, but they could be rivalled for his signature by Liverpool if Benitez can push through other deals before the window closes at the end of August.

I suspect its probably just a ploy to get RM to sell quicker and cheaper. We will defo sign a CB and RW by the end of this month.
Striker is not a priority but there is still a good chance of Owen coming back. |

I've seen him play and I rate him but he won't come.
We were in for him earlier in the summer but weren't prepared to pay the £10m asking price. Also, his club are keen to keep him and have recently appointed him team captain too! |

Kuyt to stay at De Kuip
by Mark Buckingham - created on 29 Aug 2005 Dirk Kuyt has delivered a snub to his Premiership suitors by pledging to stay at Feyenoord. The Holland international was being courted by a string of English sides ahead of Wednesday's transfer deadline. Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur were all keen to prise the striker from the Rotterdam club's grasp. But the Feyenoord ace has decided to ignore the overtures from abroad and will stay at De Kuip for this season. "I have taken my definitive decision," Kuyt told the club's official website. "I am staying at Feyenoord. "The feeling was not good, at the last moment, to leave such a beautiful and fantastic club. "For this season, nothing more will come from anything with other clubs. "I have weighed up what is good for me and what is not and I decided on Sunday evening to remain at Feyenoord." Kuyt's decision to reject a move to The Premiership will force clubs to have a late rethink over their transfer targets before the deadline. Spurs boss Martin Jol is keen to bring in a new front man after selling Fredi Kanoute to Sevilla and is torn between Chelsea's Carlton Cole and Livorno's Cristiano Lucarelli. Everton could move for Preston North End ace David Nugent, while Liverpool are still being credited with an interest in old boy Michael Owen. The Real Madrid striker is rumoured to be in England on Monday to discuss a move with Liverpool and Newcastle, who have had a bid for Owen accepted. |
