ODIs get more viewers than Champs League

ODIs (without movie stars) get more viewers than Champs League

NEW DELHI: Rumours about Twenty20 cricket killing the one-day game may have been a bit exaggerated. TV ratings show more people watched the recently concluded Champions Trophy 50-overs tournament held in South Africa than those currently following the inaugural T20 Champions League in India.

Though average ratings for Champions Trophy were a modest 1.1, the Champions League has fared even worse with an average of 0.74 so far, according to TV monitoring agency, aMap.

Some may argue it wouldn’t be fair to compare anything with the Champions League, a new tournament with a new format that viewers aren’t familiar with. However, consider this: According to TAM ratings, the India-Pakistan match during the Champions Trophy had a TRP of 6.2. That’s higher than the ratings for all matches played by India in the T20 World Championship earlier this year, where the average TRP was 3.52.

Even during the inaugural T20 world cup which the Men in Blue won, the average TRP of India matches was 6, lower than the September 26 India-Pakistan one-dayer.

These ratings indicate that the promise of a good contest, be it in a T20 or a 50-over format, will bring in viewers. The figures, particularly those of Champions League, may also hint at a slight waning of interest in the T20 game. After all, the average TRPs of IPL-2, were lower than those of the inaugural IPL (4.17 compared to 4.81).

I'm glad the viewership of the Pakistan-India ODI was sooo high. Gives more pleasure when you know soooo many Indians tuned in to watch India lose that game. A pretty hard slap for the Indian media who were calling their boys invincible and that Pakistan will be a walk in the park

0.74 wow!!

Champions league is turning out to be a massive flop. Crowds only want to see the home team.

Only way this can work is the soccer champions league, with each team getting an away and home game.

Just wait for semi-finals this week and ratings will go up. There will be more loud music and the announcer after every run. I watched a bit last weekend and that is all I got. Fill up 1-2 sections of the stands and focus on it and music and DJ/annoucer on every minute. Commentator looked a little confused as he is supposed to say full capacity but it was crowd has built up since the first game. You don't have to force it down or make it seem bigger.
Crowd will be there this week. Even 20K is good. India has big stadiums (50+K capacity) so it looks partially empty but people are there

I wonder how the champions league would be seen if there were Karachi, Sailkot and Lahore T20 teams going against top three Indian teams and other Champions league teams?

T20 games are exciting if they are played on good tracks that sport bowlers and batsman both. The mindless slogging with smaller boundaries and flat tracks gets boring after few games.

This Champions League as far as I am concerned has been a great flop. I have seen highlights of some of the games and it looks like they have had very little crowds as well. Nothing compares to international cricket.

I have seen highlights of 2 games so far. Hardly any excitement or tense moments, only mindless slogging on garbage tracks with average crowd.

Just let India tank in another T20 cup and all these Mickey mouse carnivals will go bust.

Definetely shocking.

I thought it was not even going to be close in terms of the champions trophy competing with modi and his tourney.

First year Economics Supply and Demand principle also applies in this scenario. When supply is high, demand is low. Same thing for T20 in India supply is way too high whereas demand has to be less.
