The Might of the Mo

Hi. I am Momo and I am a huge Mo fan. Found a Mo related thing that I believe my more sensitive and sensible PP fellows would like.

Why the decline of Australian cricket can be traced to the lack of facial hair among the country's players
Jarrod Kimber
November 6, 2009

Australians clearly believe in the power of the Moustache. Not only do their fans still idolise players who once had the hirsute upper lip, but two of their selectors were these men. David Boon and Merv Hughes.

Cricket Australia believes in Merv's moustache so much that they don't even care that he doesn't have pay TV, and thusly can't see any overseas cricket he isn't touring for. That is some special moustache. Merv thinks that watching the cricket on TV is no substitute for being there. He could be right. However, it is surely 100 times better than getting all the information on other games from the selector who is there rather than seeing it with your eyes. Especially if the other selector has a hairless face.

Rather than cracking down on Merv for his poor viewing habits as a selector, or throwing him a couple of dollars for a pay-TV subscription, Cricket Australia is honouring Merv in November. In fact it is honouring all cricket moustaches and openly asking for all cricketers in Australia, regardless of their level, to grow a moustache.

It isn't just some sick obsession; it is for Movember, a charity that supports men's health. Apparently men hate talking about their health, or dealing with their health, but they love growing moustaches. I tried to grow one for last Movember; at the end of the month friends of mine kept forgetting that I was in Movember due to the lack of facial hair. I couldn't even pull off a Bruce Reid Wispy moustache.

While it is all for a good cause, it could also be a way of hardening up the national team from the grass roots on up. Australia has had three wicketkeepers break fingers in the last four months. None of these wicketkeepers had moustaches. Rod Marsh would not approve. Keepers have always broken fingers, but when Marsh was around that wouldn't stop them playing or attending to their facial hair.

With the current injuries and loss of the Ashes, the Australian team really need some masculinity and bristling moustache power. Lillee, Merv, Boonie, Marsh, Chappelli, and even crazy Max Walker, have moustached up in the past. When men were tough, and hairy. Some people seem to think that if Mitchell Johnson had a moustache instead of a tongue ring Australia might have won the Ashes.

Non-Australians have also used the moustache to command respect and records. Ian Botham and Kapil Dev fought for the ultimate allrounder's title while having excellent bristlers. Graham Gooch seemed to bring his moustache from another era. Jeremy Coney had a mo so grand that it was for a time national heritage-listed in New Zealand. I still weep when I see his naked lip. Then there is the master of the moustache, Richard Hadlee, who once insured his for 73 million dollars (that may not be true).

So moustaches are more than just Australian, they are for everyone. During Movember you can grow your own and get people to donate at Movember.com. The moustache will make you a better cricketer, help men's health, give you super powers, and perhaps get you a job as a selector for the Australian cricket team. Surely that is worth one month of getting food stuck in it.

The only decision you need to make now is which cricketer you want to impersonate. Get moustaching.

From cricinfo.com
Here's to the institution of Mo, and to the hope that the Mo regains its rightful place in human civilization, which it inexplicably lost some years ago.

Remember that 'Muchh naheen to kuchh naheen.'

mouch also gives u stablility, for people like me, when the wind is strong, the weight of mouch helps me hold my ground. when a man achieves something big, the sides of the mouch automatically goes up, when in sorrow, they usually go down.

In fact I also used to sport one about fifteen years ago. But due to unavoidable reasons had to shave it off. Still haven't forgiven myself completely, although the sad decision was almost forced on me.

We got sent an email around our school by some guy in sixth form:

Quote:
HOWDY DOODY.

As you may or may not know, this month is November.
And as you may or may not also know, it is also 'MO'vember.

This is a charity thing where guys get sponsored to grow facial hair for the whole of November.
It's to raise awareness for prostate cancer, which most of you probably can't get cos you're girls, but it's still a good cause.

I've been going 6 days without a shave and already have an interesting patch of facial bum fluff. I am gonna keep it up and i will probably look like Jesus by the end of it. Maybe. I've never done it before.

But yeah, if you see me, any spare change or monies would be greatly appreciated. I'm not gonna keep your money myself, it's going straight in the Stache Stash <<< i made that up (H)

thank youuuuu.

Precisely why I was forced to shave mine, with tears in my eyes. I still sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and break down.

This is what I wrote on the subject on Sep 22, 2009:
I used to. In high school. But the problem with my 'tache was that it resembled the handle of a bicycle to an uncomfortably amazing degree (and I am talking about the old-fashioned Sohrab bicycles here). If it was true that every moustache was a statement (and I had absolutely no doubt it was), a very wrong and dangerous message was being sent, I feared.

Had to shave it therefore, and am without it since.

But my inability to contribute meaningfully to the moustache community has by no means reduced my immense respect for the institution of moustache.

I am one of those supporters who support a cause from the outside so to speak.

Ah. This thread was sorely missing the august and illuminous presence of the Khwaja. No conversation on the institution of moustache is quite complete without the Khwaja of Pakistan.

No idea what it does for power and happiness but can certainly understand how it can improve stability. Have heard rumours of expert tight rope walkers who discard poles in favour of Mo for balance.

Oh poles don't stand a chance against a decent mo. I don't care what kind of a pole it is - straight, skewed, whatever - it simply stands no chance!

And can also compliment one's hair so beautifully, that words cannot describe. This is a magnificent tache, and hats off to Mr Sheikh Waqas Ahmad of PML(Q):mush :

I was just watching highlights of the Pak/N.Z. T20 match and came across a function of the 'tache that I believe has not been mentioned as of yet.

Fawad Alam, yet to be inducted into the full 'tache elite, had a run-out opportunity from backward point. The batsman was out for all intents and purposes, but Alam didn't hit. Trying to hide his feelings of embarrassment and dissappointment in equal measure- that would have otherwise manifested itself in a tantrum- Mr Alam retained his dignity by merely, and rather nonchalantly I must add, stroking his 'tache. Class.

P.S. With an up and coming 'tache, he is bound to represent Pakistani cricket in the near future. This image was taken a while back. The progress of the 'tache in question has been satisfactory.

This gentleman was in attendance today, and was fully milking the glorious expression of protein which has established over his top lip region, no doubt through the course of several years. He had a close up on camera, stroking one side, then the other. A smirk, ripe with self-satisfaction, crowd cheering in awe. And then the finale: puts the sunglasses on [during this night time T20] and the crowd went nuts.

Without further ado:

Saw Waris drama again last weekend. Moonchon ka jumma bazaar. Aik say barh kar aik moonch. The only ones not having one were just two Chaudhry Niaz, the kamzoor one, and one side charachter who was Dilawar's chacha's daughter's husband. Then there were two servants of Choudhry Hashmat with no lip cover.

There must have been atleast 10 moonch there and they were main characters in the drama. I am not even counting the side roles but mentioned a side role on non mooch wala

I hereby confirm that Sheikh Rasheed blesses a wig by being gracious enough to wear it.

But wouldn't you agree that the contrast of having a dark and heavily oiled 'stache with that of a sparkling tind helps to glorify the moonch?

I say, take that wig off Sheikhy, be a man, do the right thing!

Are you questioning the Sheikhs decision to go with a (magnificent) dark moustache with an (equally magnificent) style of hair on his head?

I sincerely hop e for your sake you are NOT questioning him...

I hereby officially ask that you write to Oxfords and Websters insisting for the instatement of 'moustachified' in their respective dictionaries....if denied know i will personally fly to Japan and come with you to Oxford official Japan offices to take part in the protest (whatever kind you deem fit...hunger, sit-in....gathering all the moustached men we can find in the building chanting some kind of pro-tache slogan, it'll be your call).

I think he was hoping to score points under the innovation criterion (as opposed to size). The innovation is twofold:

1. The cross inside the mo.
2. One side of mo longer (and differently shaped) than the other.

And the stark but endearing contrast between the super-brow region and the sub-nostril area tells its own story. As opposed to the former, which is a case of "hair today, gone tomorrow", the latter is, potentially at least, "hair today, hairier tomorrow".

A valuable lesson for men of vision!

It's an undeniable fact that real men want to make a statement of their manhood. And what better way to make a convincing case for that than a solid and coherent moustache!
