PakPassion Presents an Exclusive interview with Shahid Nazir (Questions Thread)

I’m delighted to announce that I’ll be doing an interview with former Pakistan pace bowler Shahid Nazir.

In a career spanning 13 years to date, Shahid has represented Faisalabad, Gujranwala Cricket Association, ICL Pakistan XI, Lahore Badshahs, National Bank of Pakistan and he is currently playing for Habib Bank Limited in the QEA Trophy.

He of course also represented Pakistan in 15 tests and 17 one day internationals, taking a total of 55 wickets.

Usual PP format folks, add your questions in this thread and we'll select the best 15-20 questions.

Also just to update you all. The Saeed Bin Nasir interview is scheduled for 7th December and the Taufeeq Umar interview should follow the Saeed one.

Did you feel mistreated after the 1996 tour to England? Many English commentators at the time thought you were just what we needed, line and length, to compliment our other bowling options.

1.In 1996 there was a lot of noise about the different camps within the squad i.e. those who backed Wasim and the rest that backed Waqar. What is your take on this?

2. You made a comeback in 2006/2007 when Bob Woolmer was coach. What kind of impact do you believe he had on yourself and the team in general.

3. In domestic cricket , who do you least like to bowl to?

Where you ever express 90 mph at your prime in 1996-1999? Why do you think you never got consistent chances at that point in time?

How would you rate your spell against the West Indies in C and United Series final 2nd final vs the West Indies in Jan 1997 where you got the wicket of Jimmy Adams, Phil Simmons, Brian Lara? Even Lara rated you very highly after that spell?

Why do you think we are no longer producing the express pace bowlers like Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Zahid in domestic cricket anymore? Does it have to do with the flat pitches? Unambitious attitude of the newer generation? Or action tampering to avoid injuries?

Shahid, a lot has been discussed regarding domestic cricket in Pakistan, what changes would you suggest ?

How do you rate the up and coming talent in Pakistan compared with say 10 years ago?

Any plans for the future, once you retire from cricket ?

Some former Pakistan fast bowlers have stated that Wasim and Waqar "blocked" their progress, did you find this too?

Name one batsman who you think should be currently representing Pakistan.

What is your choice of Pakistan's test openers?

Shahid bhai you have a good cocked-seam position which helped you swing the ball. Don't you think this should be taught to our new young inspiring bowlers before they strive out for all pace ??

How was the experience of playing under Wasim and Inzamam?

There was a lot of criticism of Inzamam and his apparently dictatorial methods, would you say this was justified? Also did you notice much change in him as captain compared to when you played with him many years earlier as a player?

You performed well in England and at home against WI in 2006, what went wrong in South Africa in 2007? you did suffer some terrible bad luck with decisions in the first test, did that affect you mentally?(3 wrong decisions in a session)

The story of your recall in 2006 was a heartening one, you really didn't have any inkling that you'd be anywhere close to the squad to England?

What is your take on the Ovalgate situation, have your feelings changed now regarding how the situation was dealt with at the time?

The team you toured England with in 1996 was one of the strongest Pakistan line ups in history, what was your experience of being with that squad, did you find the senior players had a good attitude towards juniors like yourself?

What happened to Shadab Kabir, for a very brief period he was touted the next big thing as far as batting was concerned for Pak?

You've played a lot of cricket with Younis Khan for HBL and know him well, what is your take on the captaincy saga and also his somewhat erratic behaviour?

What really happened between Shoaib and Bob Woolmer in SA on the balcony during the Port Elizabeth test in 2007?

Who were the most dominant players you bowled to in both international and domestic cricket, who played the short ball the best?

What do you suggest we do to combat the current openers problem?

Is the current squad one you envisaged? Who would you have selected?

Where, realistically, do you see Pakistan cricket going? We are level with N.Z. and W.I. at the moment. How do you see us progressing?

Sorry for including just contemporary questions. The other posts have dealt with more 'personal' questions (regarding his career). I felt some questions regarding the current team should also be posed.
