Which Sat Nav?

I am after a second cheap and cheerful yet up to date Sat Nav for someone, any suggestions?

I have owned and used tom tom in the past and it is generally brilliant if a littel bulky, perhaps newer versions are more sleek and slim.

But for this one I am looking for reasonably cheap one (for UK/Europe only)

Garmin is the one I own. Works like a charm.

Although not sure how much it costs in Europe though. It wasn't really cheap here so probably isn't over there either. BTW I got mine for $400 a year ago (probably is cheaper now I would think).

Depends I guess on how much you are willing to spend. I would avoid getting anything other than a Tom Tom. There's a reason why it's number 1. Maps are nice and clear and it's very simple to use.

You're going to struggle to find a fairly recent one for under £100 I would say. What is your budget?

Thanks Raz.

I know tom tom is best, not sure if the newer once are slimline like others, older Tom Tom were bulky.

coming back to topic at hand, it does not ahve to be latest or completely up to date, as long as it has updated maps, layouts I am okay. budget is about £130, the other thought is to wait it out until Jan sales?

Yes the very latest models are slimmer, unlike the very first ones that came out.

I've found a Tom Tom Go 920 at £140 including postage and packaging on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOMTOM-GO-920-...item1c0e4c6921

That's on a buy it now and seems like a very good deal. However, it's factory refurbished and not brand new. This is what the seller has posted about it:

Quote:
This item is refurbished direct from the TOMTOM factory.
What is a 'Newly Overhauled' (NOH) TOMTOM GPS?
Answer direct from TOMTOM: These are systems that have been returned to TOMTOM from either an end user or dealer that may or may not have been used. Many of the units TOMTOM gets back from their larger retailers are actually found to be working fine, but end users have returned them for any number of reasons. Whereas some units do come back with real failures. TOMTOM therefore takes all these units that come back, tests them out and, if necessary, does repairs to bring them back to "like new" status. These units are therefore as good as new, but since they have been in the field, cannot be sold as new. These systems are not new, but are as good as new.

This product is Manufacturer refurbished in NEW condition, in TOMTOM Refurbished box. This package includes the following warranty:

* Warranty Length: This product comes with 3 MONTHS warranty with SELLER.
* Coverage: This warranty covers repair or replacement of defective product.
Obviously you can get cheaper Tom Tom's that are brand new, but these aren't Tom Tom Go models, which have all the features such as bluetooth, hands free calling etc etc.

I reckon that Jan Sales are unlikely to be having any recent Tom Tom Go models at 130 quid or under.

Check out this link - Halfords

I bought the Tom Tom One XL ages ago and it is a fantastic bit of kit..

However, a few issues:

- The mount is very weak and flimsy and the car charger has just come lose (but that is after 5 years worth of usage)
- Also ensure you regularly update the software on Tom Tom as you could come across changes not made

Yeah, go to Halfords

Currently for Xmas they are doing upto 50% off Sat Navs

The RAC 100 which is a very decent basic sat nav is currently around £59, down from £89
