Mansoor Amjad Targets the Twenty/20 World Cup

Speaking exclusively to PakPassion.net, National Bank and Pakistan all rounder Mansoor Amjad stated that next years Twenty/20 World Cup tournament in the Caribbean is definitely on his radar.

"I'm hoping that I can finish the Quaid E Azam Trophy tournament with a good performance in the final game against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines and then perform well in the forthcoming domestic 50 over and Twenty/20 Tournaments. I'm really looking forward to playing regularly for National Bank in the coming weeks and months and catching the eye of the selectors" stated Amjad.

Amjad who has represented Pakistan in one 50 over match and a Twenty/20 international added "I'm feeling 100% fit after such a long time. It's been such a frustrating time for me, having injury after injury, it's been a nightmare at times. I've had to miss so much cricket which has been very difficult for me. The worst injury was the one to my bowling hand where I damaged ligaments in my finger. I made a few comebacks after the finger injury but the problem kept on recurring. After consulting the medical experts I was advised to take a break from cricket and only come back when I was fully fit".

Under 19 World Cup winner Amjad further added "I've had to put in a lot of hard work throughout the pre season and I feel that the hard work is now paying off. In the last match I scored 31 and 85 and took 4 wickets for National Bank. Of course it's every player's dream to play for their country and I cherish the 2 games that I have played for Pakistan. I took 3 for 3 in my only over in the Twenty/20 international against Bangladesh and I took 1 for 44 versus Sri Lanka in Karachi in my only one day international. I sincerely hope that I get another chance to show my ability on the international stage and the Twenty/20 World Cup next April and May in the Caribbean is definitely a target".

I think two areas where Mansoor Amjad needs to improve is his hitting and his bowling accuracy. I think he possesses both talents but he needs to become more consistent to succeed internationally. I also think Pakistan need to start using him as a backup to Afridi. If Afridi is missing for any reason they could plug him in their.

Mansoor of course was very highly rated by the late and great Bob Woolmer.

I think if Woolmer as still coach of Pakistan I reckon Mansoor would have made a lot more than just 2 appearances for Pakistan.

Genuine question: Why is he so highly rated?

Looking at his stats he just seems like another bits and pieces, ODI/T20 player.

With the likes of Afridi, Ajmal and Kaneria?

Theres too much competition.

Mansoor is a good talent though, no doubt about it.
Remember him being an absolute star at u19 level.

Hopefully he will turn out to be good enough for international level.

he needs to improve his batting, he has the potential to take afridi's position in the team when he retires as the leg spining all rounder.

Not now really but he had the potential because he is a very sensible batsman and was a super talented legspinner but now his bowling is literally vanished and he is Malik part II as a batsman with similar batting stance and technique.

He is a good player and I would love to see him play international cricket. However, how will he fit in because Pakistan already has 2 well established spinners in Ajmal and Afridi? Nonetheless, I wish the lad all the best in his ambition of playing for the national side and feel he could make the squad.

Is he playing club or county cricket during the summer? I remember he did for Leicestershire during the 07 season and he was only 19 odd.

He's got a beautiful bowling action and can turn the ball both ways. Highly rated by the late Bob Woolmer. He's had formidable success in the U19 circuit.

Remember it quite clearly as I was in the stadium. I think it's the only T-20 we've played at home.

Good to see this article on Cricinfo :-

http://www.cricinfo.com/pakistan/con...ry/439326.html

Mansoor may be playing league cricket next year in the UK if the right deal can be sorted out.

There is no such thing as a cricket world cup! It's a cricket playing nations cup

The only world cup is the soccer world cup

could please check the stats of Naved Yasin and then let me know how do you feel?

Naved yasin has double avg isn the first class than shoaib malik...but sadly no body talking about him.

could u believe Naved scored 6 hundreds in this season(9 matches).

Tell me a single pakistani batsman name who had scored 6 hundreds in 9 matches in last 50 years in first class cricket.

Naved is playing for Multan in group B. I'm not taking anything away from the number of runs he's scored this season. But I'd like to see him put in the same performances for a departmental team. If he make's the A squad and we tour a relatively strong team then it'll give people a better idea about him.

As for Mansoor after reading some of the post's on him I get the feeling that he's more than a tad over rated.

Precisely!

In any case, the last time I checked, we already had an excellent leg-spinning all-rounder cum handy slogging batsman in our Twenty20 squad, and we definitely don't need a very poor and pale imitation....

Lets wait and see whether he makes it to the Carribbean - its going to be tough for him though in my opinion.
