Amir Khan signs deal with Golden Boy promotions.

Quote:
WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan has announced a deal with United States-based Golden Boy Promotions.

Khan, who has been promoted by Frank Warren since turning professional in 2005, has won 22 of his 23 pro fights and became a world champion last year.

But the Bolton 23-year-old is to link up with Oscar De Hoya's promotional company as he looks to crack America.

"I'm ready to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime and know Golden Boy will help me accomplish these goals," said Khan.

"I am really happy Khan Promotions is partnering with Golden Boy.

"I know that together they will be the right team to help me continue my career as an elite fighter and to expand my fan base to the United States and around the world."

Khan is trained by Freddie Roach in California, where the Bolton fighter has been based since suffering the only defeat of his career, a first-round knockout at the hands of Breidis Prescott in September 2008.

After beating Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera last March he defeated Andreas Kotelnik to take the WBA belt in July and retained it with a first-round stoppage of Dmitriy Salita in December.

Those impressive performances made a significant statement in America, not least to Golden Boy president and founder De La Hoya and his colleagues.

"Amir Khan is one of the most talented fighters in the world at any weight.

"That talent, combined with his charismatic and out-going personality, makes him a promoter's dream and I feel will one day lead him to being the face of boxing," De La Hoya said.

"We are extremely excited to team with Khan Promotions and look forward to introducing Amir to fight fans in the United States and around the world."

Khan, silver medallist at the 2004 Athens Olympics, is due to make a second mandatory defence of his title against big-hitting Argentinean Marcos Maidana, who is also promoted by Golden Boy.

But Roach apparently considers Maidana too dangerous a fighter for his charge at this stage and Khan could instead fight American Paulie Malignaggi.

A spokesman for Frank Warren told BBC Sport on Sunday that the promoter was unavailable for comment.

Good news for Khan.

Leaving Frank Warren is a good move. Now that he is with Golden Boy promotions you can expect to see some hard fights for Khan.

Better opportunities for Khan.

This move makes sense - he wants to fight in the states and going with a US promoter is the way to go

Though i find his choice of Golden Boy interesting after the recent comments by De La Hoya where he suggested Manny may have something to hide re. the drugs issue

As much as i would like to see him beat Prescott at this stage of his career it makes no sense - he is aiming for bigger and better fighters, Prescott is way down the pecking order

I checked the Golden Boy Promotions website and I see Manny in list of their fighters.

A year ago Mayweather was affliated with them. Maybe both are now. I won't be surprised if Hopkins and Mosley were also with them (both have/had positions in compnay) when they fought each other or De La Hoya or Winky Wright (also with them)
