Amla vs Mohammad Yousuf

Both similar looking, identical batting styles and flawless techniques.
Its a battle of the beards ...
Both play cricket the old fashioned way, rely more on technique and concentration, rather than slam bang cricket ....

It is irony but there's something in the beard that puts a batsman a step ahead of the rest. :-)

Yousuf has had a highly successful career, though towards the twilight of his career, still very elegant.

Now this guy Amla seems to have taken a leaf out of YOusuf's book and has modelled himself upon the former.

Only time will reveal, how must of an impact Amla would go on to make in his career.

But from whatever I've seen of him, there's definetely a lot of potential. \\

Whom do you think is the superior cricketer ?

Amla's technique doesn't match MoYo's. MoYo is a much more complete batsmen, and much better to watch.

Amla has a better temperament, and is good at hiding his weaknesses. He knows his limits, and that his technique is suspect, but has the mental strength to get past that.

At this current moment in time, Amla is the better Batsmen, when comparing in test matches as Amla does not play many ODIs, Yousuf is better at ODIs.

Amla is on form making big runs and holding his wicket when it matters, against the likes of India, England and Aus. Mohammed Yousef has been failing since his come back from the ICL.

Look at the stats for both from Jan 2009 to Feb 2010

Amla
=================
Matches:............. 10
Runs:...................1058
High Score:..........253*
Average:..............70.53
Hundreds:............4

Yousef
=================
Matches:............. 9
Runs:...................661
High Score:..........112
Average:..............36.72
Hundreds:............1

Right now its not so difficult to be better then MOYO. He has been playing poor cricket for a while now !

Overall if you look to both careers MOYO is way better.

Why are you comparing someone at their end of their career with someone who has just started?

In my opinion Yousufs beard covers a larger surface area than Amla's hence Yousuf is victorious.

I dont know, just my opinion.

Amla is currently in better form. MoYo is a class act, like Ponting, Tendulkar, and Kallis, but is also reaching the end of his career like the rest.

Amla still has tons to learn. He has the potential, but judging him from his form against possibly the world's thinnest bowling attack on flat pitches is pretty short-sighted.

Amla is in the prime of his career and Yousuf isn't thus it doesn't make sense to compare them based on their performances right now.

Put Yousuf's prime against Amla's prime and we have a contest. I rate Yousuf higher because he's done it for longer then Amla and has been consistent while scoring his runs. Although his weakness in Australia hurts his cause.

Amla might go on to be a better batsman but right now Yousuf should be rated higher in terms of his career achievements.

Technically and talent wise Moyo would be two Amla. But temperment wise i reackon Amla has the edge. Moyo needs someone with remote control like Inzi to control him he just can't take pressure.

Yousuf's a run machine.. Amla needs to go a long way before even being mentioned in the same breadth as Mo Yo.

Yousuf has full scalp of hair whereas Amla is bald. I think Amla is bit taller and more athletic and probably wears a shoe size bigger then Yousuf.

Nobody in the world comes near batting style of MOYO. (currently)

Its hard to compare the two... as one is almost at the end of his career and one half way through. Amla on current form is better!

But overall looking at the whole career, Yousuf stands out, comapring tests

Yousuf so far
Played 88 tests with average of 53! and has 7400 test runs...

Amla so far..
Played 43 tests with Average of 47 and has 3260 test runs...

From a batting point of view, Amla does have a long way to go before he can be compared however his potential is certainly there for all to see. HE has performed against the big guns whereas lately Yousuf is struggling to hold his place in the team..Lets not also forget that Amla beats Yousuf hands down in the fielding dept, being a specialist short leg...In conclusion until he has a year like MoYo did when he scored the most runs in a calender year, then can he be classed as being as god as MoYo

amla can be greatest player of all time.

yousuf can never recover after the backstabbing he received from shoaib malik. it affects any player and i think it has affected yousuf's game too. I dont think he will recover from that but if he do so, that will be amazing!
