Tanvir is probably the player that I would have thought may have been in the final 15 who is not on this list, obvioslsy due to injury.

I'm a bit surprised at a couple of names in there who arent even listed to play in the forthcoming T20 RBS Cup. I guess they had better find them room in a team pretty quick.

The final squad will be similar to the one that played in the UAE with misbah in it too..rubbish if you ask me..can't see us winning much with jokers like malik and misbah in the squad..most of the other newbies will be discarded when the tour squad is announced!! Aussies will pound this team!!

Aussies couldn't pound us in the T20 when we were missing Afridi and Aamer. Don't see why we have to be negative at all times.

The only team so far given any competition to Aussies is Pakistan T20 side, without their 2 players who will play in all the T20 games if up for selection. And both are match winners in their own rights.

It's only a 30 man squad. By the time they cut it down to 15 it will only be 1 keeper. Haider is a better pinch hitter than Sarfraz and that's why he has been named.

Shoaib and Tanvir not in World Twenty20 squad

Except for the omission of fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, there were no major surprises in Pakistan's preliminary 30-man squad for the defence of their World Twenty20 title in the Caribbean in two months' time. Injured fast bowler Sohail Tanvir, who has not played any cricket since November, was also overlooked.

Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, said Shoaib had been overlooked because he had hardly played any cricket in the past ten months. Though Shoaib has only taken part in a couple of List A matches since the series against Australia in UAE last May, he had said last week that he was still confident of making an international comeback. He will lead Islamabad Leopards in the upcoming RBS Twenty20 Cup.

Butt said Tanvir would undergo knee surgery in Australia. "The doctors are not sure when he will regain the fitness," he told AP.

Another fast bowler who was missing from the probables was Mohammad Talha, who had been part of the squad for the two Twenty20s against England last weekend.

Squad: Imran Nazir, Imran Farhat, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Hafeez, Salman Butt, Shahzaib Hassan, Shoaib Malik, Umar Akmal, Naveed Yasin, Hasan Raza, Kamran Younis, Misbah-ul-Haq, Babar Azam, Fawad Alam, Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi, Yasir Arafat, Hammad Azam, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Umar Gul, Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Sami, Saeed Ajmal, Raza Hasan, Abdul Rehman, Kamran Akmal, Sarfraz Ahmed, Zulqarnain Haider

Why would you omit Shoaib? He's playing in the upcoming T20 competition...if he performs badly or get injured then omit him from the 15 man squad. Its better to pick Shoaib than someone who has no chance anyway like Abdul Rehman.

we good combination of bowlers like asif , razzak , arafat , aamir and gul etc and including injury prone fast bowler will disturb team combination.

Why do you need 3 keepers? Another name that's missing is Nasir Jamshed.

He seems to have gone completely out of favour.

Thats right Ayyub, he has age on his side and if he has the passion to learn and improve the game then definitely he will make a comeback soon!

It'll be good to see how he does in the RBS T20 especially after last seeing him get pwned by SL in the slips!

his fitness is awful he need to improve it alot for good run in international cricket and we all know imran nazir and kamran akmal will open for all matches so there is no need to put him 30 man squad in sitting waiting bench .

No need for Shoiab and as for Sohail...well we were begging for him to be dropped after the last T20 useless performance. Luckily we got Razzaq back just in time.

Fitness has always been an issue with most of our players so its nothing new!

Thats another name that I also noticed which is missing from the squad announced.

He got to play just 1 T20 for Pak and got 2 wickets in his 1 over that he bowled gave away 2 runs or something and never got picked again!

Just happens to show these things can happen only in Pakistan Cricket!

Well with that sort of fitness, he definitely doesn't look 18 at all he's nearly 22-23 I'd say!

A good selection by Pakistan, the team is young and with raw experience, some potential world-class players there like umar akmal.

Also good to see pakistan changing their policy slightly by trying out few gems who performed well in the U19 world cup like babar and raza.

Good stuff.

Weak bowling side. Compare with Tait, Nannes, MJ, Watson, etc. Or Steyn, Morkels, Parnell, etc. Or Bond, Mills, Tuffey, Vettori, etc.

If Tanvir is unfit, Rana or Asif in place of Arafat. Aamer/Rana come in at #8/#9, or Aamer/Gul if Asif is playing. Our batting will always be brittle, so we need to limit the opposition's runs. Also, Arafat's batting is redundant in that we shouldn't have to reply upon it ever. That is, let's hope the top 7 can bat out the most of 20 overs, with #8 and #9 only needed for a few deliveries each.

With the exception of Aamer, your bowling squad is the same as the one that got hammered by England in Dubai. Not sure how much difference Aamer can make on his own. He needs another wicket-taker. Gul is unreliable these days.

You say what I think. I agree with you on all points. A good, aggressive pace-attack is a must in T20's, just look at Australia. We need a good opening bowler with Amir, my vote goes to Asif since Tanvir is injured. Rana is also a far better option than Arafat.

7 batsman should be enough as you say, if we have to rely on Arafat's batting at 8 we aren't going to win anyway. It is better to have 5 world-class bowlers so you can restrict the opposition.

Amir
Asif/Rana
Gul
Afridi
Ajmal
Razzaq

Bowling wins you matches!

Timesofindia shows how pathetic they are. Calling misbah "a 37 year old veteran" and also saying that there is no place for Yousuf and Younis. How pathetic they are? Don't they know that Yousuf doesn't play T20 and Younis retired from this format.

because they have to select their team from these 30 and you cannot select from
outside so if someone gets injured you can still have 2 wicketkeepers in the 15.
In our current team there is no one who could take up the gloves in case of injury so there is a good chance we will have 2 wicket keepers in the the 15.

I think they've selected a decent 30
Babar Azam and Hammad Azam have been included to probably get exposure with the mainstream players whereas Raza Hasan should be included without a doubt
