Ajmal and Gul unneccesary extras for T20?

Is it really neccesary that we have Ajmal and Gul in our t20 team.
They are perhaps neccesary inclusions to the squad but in the first X1 I think their participation should be questioned. Our bowling has been one of the strenghts of our team in recent years and has saved us on many occasions.
BUT
Aamer can bat, Razzaq can and so can Afridi-sometimes. I feel we should be looking to get runs on the board rather than focusing on squeezing teams, after T20 is all about hitting.

We suck at batting. Therfore we need to squeeze out the opposition with our bowling. Therfore Gul and ajmal are needed. However, Gul I feel is somewhat replaceable.

Gul is crucial for us in T20s, but he needs to be performing at the level he was at the 07 and 09 T20 WC.

His recent form is a real worry, but hopefully he can find form in the practice matches.

Saeed Ajmal as in 'World T20 winner'?

Saeed Ajmal from Afghanabad, Faisalabad?

You want to drop him?

Wow.

Only a Pakistani would think of Gul, argubaly the bowler of the tournament in the last world cup, as an 'unnecessary extra'.

Just because a player has been below par in say for example test cricket doesn't mean to say that he should be dropped for a completely different form of the game.

But I guess when our selectors select test squads from T20 performaces you can't really expect much better from the fans.

Ajmal is one of the best spinners in the T20 format so I think we need him.

He was a star performer in the last T20 WC.

Can no-one have an opinion on this forum without being slated?
Has no-one actually been watching cricket since the last T20 WC.
Gul has not been at his best, nor Ajmal. Gul has not bowled those yorkers that made him world class in a long time, I am not saying he is a bad selection but I would pick Asif and Aamer over him. Ajmal cannot bat, unlike Razzaq.
Admittedly Butt may be a dodgy pick. But as I said we need to bat, keep wickets and have firepower for the last 6 overs instead of trying to squeeze and restrict teams. Even the best bowlers can suffer in T20.

I think Asif can be sit out, in my opinion he can be only good when batsmen are not attacking and the pitch is helpful to bowler as well, his record is good only in Tests, so with a flat pitch and twenty over to play for, where batsmen are going to go after every ball, i don't think Asif is a good choice. But on the other hand, Gul last two-three months were well below par, so at this time yeah Gul can be sat out but if he regains his form, i dont think we need to play Asif in T20 (speacilly when whole squad is fit). On a side note, i will take the new Sami over Asif.

lol they are our best blowers in T20 infact, they are in top 5 of all time wicket takers and you want them out?

I fail to understand these logics at times.

Its all good on paper but in practical sense we need them.

Ajmal, Afridi and Gul led us to the WC victory last year. Without them we would've lost against NZ, let alone South Africa in the final.

Saeed Ajmal bowled really well in the recently concluded RBS T20 Cup. So, it probably doesn't make sense to state that he would be an unnecessary extra. I think he is a must in the team due to his stellar ability to dry up the runs. Plus his bowling partnership with Afridi is deadly.

As far as Umar Gul goes I think he deserves to be in the team. He has proven himself quite capable of destroying batting lineups under pressure in this format. If he doesn't perform well in the first couple of games then we could consider a change but as of right now he deserves a spot in the final XI.

I can understand where the OP is coming from but to be honest you don't drop players from certain formats due to their performances in another.

Fact - the best bowling teams win at T20.
This is why Sri Lanka, South Africa all got far in the last WC. WI were just hanging on due to Gayle.

India failed miserably because they had no bowlers.

What the **** is wrong with Pakistani supporters?! Seriously im getting sick and bloody tired of some people.....why should we have Gul (top T20 wicket taker out of them ALL)...proven best T20 bowler (shown in BOTH T20 WCs!)....but yeah lets drop him!

Ajmal...a proven match winner, amazing spin twin alongside Afridi (who i suppose we should also drop even though he's the second highest wicket taker)!

Just.....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

If Gul repeats his accuracte yorkers this time around he will be the most valuable player in our team. Saeed Ajmal is an automatic in the T20 side, one of the first names on the sheet and the very fact you question his presence in the team goes to show how quickly you overlook his tightness with the ball even it means he isn't an out and out wicket taker.

I am very very concerned about Umar Gul's ability to bowl yorkers, this guy carried us to 2 finals because no one could get him away at the death, no one in 2 WC tournaments was able to get a hold of him, but I haven't seen a yorker from this guy since that WC and it worries me. If you think Razzaq and Asif will be able to bowl at the death, you're in for a rude awakening. Razzaq and Asif are both poor bowlers at the death, we need Gul and his yorkers just as much as we need Afridi and Ajmal's tight bowling in the middle.
