The True South African
I took this letter from the Herald Newspaper in Port Elizabeth, earlier today and I echo his sentiments wholeheartedly:
AS I look back at my 62 years as a white South African, the three most memorable moments for me were the TV coverage of the walk to freedom of Nelson Mandela, the queues of smiling faces of all races as we lined up for the first democratic elections, and the emotions of pride, passion and sense of humility as the wonderful Madiba embraced Francois Pienaar after we as a united country had won the Rugby World Cup. Over the years, and understandably, we have experienced all the criticisms, fears, anger, mistrust, denial etc – the whole gamut of emotions that go with the birthing pains of a new nation – which will continue to take place until we learn to understand and respect those of a different colour to us. So in God’s name I ask that every person of colour across the country invite people of another colour, especially if they don’t have a TV set, to share the opening ceremony of the World Cup soccer and the Bafana Bafana game. We will find a common passion, a common pride and a common joy that has always been there to discover, and I guarantee our moment together will be a moment that we will remember forever. For those white persons who are able to take it one step further, share the moment in the home of someone in a township and you will be amazed at the Madiba-like love and hospitality you will be shown. But whatever you do, do it in the knowledge that your gesture will be as bonding, healing and momentous, in its own small way, as that of Mandela’s all those years ago. Then to all South Africans, I plead that we extend a hand of friendship and Christian love to all who visit this beautiful country in the next six weeks so they may return to their homes with special memories of their own. Good luck Bafana, and God bless South Africa and her people. – Cliff Hatt, Zinkwazi, KZN

QUOTE] great message, but any day i would prefer humanly love than muslim, christian, hindu , sikh love. basically he is defying everything what he said earlier by just mentioning christian love. there is no religion which propagates hate: its all about love, and care. |
