Has there ever been a squad, that at the time it was announced, you looked at all 15/16 players, and said, "Yes. This is the best squad that could have been selected."
If yes, which squad was it? How did they end up doing?
If not, what is the squad that received the closest to 100% approval?
Sad to see a loyal servant of NZ cricket bow out quietly but he will know the bowling attack is now in good capable hands. Known to most NZ fans as a tireless and full-hearted bowler who while never a world beater could still run through the best lineups on his day. Carried the seam attack during Shane Bond's many injured spells and dragged NZ cricket through a rough patch with bowling partners 15 years his junior.
Pakistan-born leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed has been cleared to play in the Ashes after he was granted Australian citizenship.
Nathan Lyon is currently the only spinner in the Australia squad for the five-Test series, which begins at Trent Bridge on 10 July, but they could now call on Ahmed after he took advantage of legislation passed by the Australian Senate to fast-track citizenship in special cases. Could he solve Australia's spin bowling woes?
They say the true test of a batsman is in the fourth innings of Test match. The pitch has deteriorated a great deal, the odd ball keeps really low and there's a lot of turn and it is at times unplayable.
Inside is a list of the top 25 batsmen with best average in the 4th innings:
With the first edition of the ICC Test Championship set to be held in England in 2017, there is a lot of discussion on the actual format of torunament. Given the disparity in the number of matches that various teams play against one another, how does that reflect on the overall concept of the Test Championship, which may only feature the top four ranked teams?
Amir - 6 month jail sentence. Pleaded guilty in court case.
Westfield - 4 month jail sentence. Pleaded guilty in court case.
Kaneria - No jail sentence. No court case. No guilty verdict from a law court, only from a tribunal.
Amir - 5 year ban from all cricket.
Westfield - 5 year ban from county cricket, but only 3 year ban from club cricket.
Kaneria - Life ban from all cricket.
Amir - ICC's latest announcement - No reduction in 5 year ban but possibility of training at PCB facilities allowed.
Westfield - Trying to get ban from club cricket reduced even further.
Kaneria - Told to pay over £100,000 costs of tribunal etc.
Double, or should it be triple, standards or what!
If you also include Asif and Butt, it means that Amir, Asif, Butt and Westfield, despite being found guilty in law courts and serving jail sentences, will all be allowed to play after serving 5 year bans ( 3 years in Westfields case as regards club cricket, and possibly even less depending upon his appeal), but Kaneria, who's not even been tried in a court of law, has a life ban?
What kind of justice is this, other than the ECB being vindictive towards Kaneria?
