The West Indies team has a lot of excting players and are grouped with Pakistan, India, South Africa. They would be looking to cause soe upsets in Group B.

How the mighty have fallen. The double World Cup Champions (1975,1979) are the least favoured amongst the big 8 teams to lift the Cup on March 29th. With an inexperienced captain at the helm and missing key players (Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard) West Indies will be hard pressed to get past the Quarter Finals and might find Ireland tricky in the group, confidence will also be low after taking a beating in South Africa. West Indies are ranked 8th on the ICC ODI rankings.

World Cup Record

1975 - (England) Winners

1979 - (England) Winners

1983 - (England) Finalists

1987 - (India/Pakistan) Group Stage

1992 - (Australia/New Zealand) Group Stage

1996 - (India/Pakistan/Sri Lanka) Semi-finalists

1999 - (England) Group Stage

2003 - (South Africa/Zimbabwe) Group Stage

2007 - (West Indies) Super 8s

2011 - (India/Sri Lanka/Bangladesh)*Quarter-Finalists

Squad

Sulieman Benn, Darren Bravo, Jonathan Carter, Sheldon Cottrell, Chris Gayle, Jason Holder (capt), *Nikita Miller, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Kemar Roach, Andre Russell, Darren Sammy, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Jerome Taylor.

*replaced the withdrawn Sunil Narine on 29th January

Top 3 Players To Watch

Andre Russell

Batting average : 29 Strike rate: 125

Bowling average : 32 Economy 5.7

A supreme athlete. A massive hitter of the ball, brilliant fieldsman and a clever quick bowler. Has shown the ability to take West Indies over the line from tough positions. Could light up the World Cup if he gets going.

Chris Gayle

Batting average : 37 Strike rate : 84

One of the biggest hitters in cricket. If he gets going West Indies will have dominant starts. They need him to have a great World Cup to be in with a chance.

Kemar Roach

Bowling average : 27 Economy : 4.9

By far the best bowler in the squad. Capable of swinging the ball at close to 90 mph, he can easily remove a team's top order. Will need to fire as it's hard to see any other reliable source of wickets in Narine's absence.

Prediction

Although not even mentioned amongst the favourites there is plenty of ability in the squad. The most likely result is a Quarter Final exit. But if a couple of the above players have a good match they can easily make the Semi Finals. The batting is explosive but lacks quality in the middle order apart from Marlon Samuels. The bowling also appears heavily reliant on Kemar Roach. Overall too much reliance on 3 or 4 players means West Indies are likely to struggle.
