A very competitive tournament produced a damp finale as Punjab Stallions eased home in the Pentangular Cup final defeating the Federal Areas Leopards by eight wickets at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Punjab had been the strongest team through the tournament, going into the final undefeated, and they lived up to their billing as favourites with solid displays in all departments.
Saeed Ajmal bowled an amazing, double-wicket final over to seal a thrilling one-run win for Federal Areas over the NWFP Panthers at the National Stadium in Karachi. In what was a virtual semi-final, Ajmal's heroics sent FA through to the Pentangular ODI Cup final, in which they will play the unbeaten Punjab Stallions on Wednesday.
Superb centuries from youngster Umar Amin and 23 year old Afaq Raheem in an unbeaten 251-run partnership led the Federal Areas Leopards to a convincing seven-wicket win over Baluchistan Bears at the National Stadium in Karachi. It capped a fine fightback, after Federal Areas had slipped to 25 for 3 chasing 277.
Shoaib Malik continued his solid form with both bat and ball, as he led the Punjab Stallions to their second win in a row over the NWFP Panthers. Far from the fireworks of yesterday's spectacular last-ball thriller, this was a slow-burner: an NWFP side weakened by the absence of captain Umar Gul and Younis Khan pushed hard.
