In his latest blog on PakPassion.net, former Pakistan batsman and current television commentator and analyst, Mohammad Wasim writes about how fatigue and pressure on Saeed Ajmal may have been contributing factors to his current predicament and why a six month break from cricket could be the solution to this issue.
Unheard of less than a month ago, Sialkot Stallions’ Mukhtar Ahmed burst onto the scene with the proverbial bang when he, playing his first national level T20 tournament, blazed his way to 195 runs in just 5 innings at an average of 48.75 and a strike rate of 161.15 to go with 7 wickets in just 5 games at a scarcely believable average and strike rate of 10.28 and 8.50 respectively.
Prior to the Haier National T20 Cup, the entirety of his domestic experience at the highest level consisted of a sum total of 6 List A games. He saved his best for the best, picking up 3 wickets for 28 against Karachi Dolphins including those of Shahid Afridi and Sarfraz Ahmed before scoring an unbeaten 48 ball hundred against an attack comprising Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Sami and Anwar Ali to chase 150 in all of 15 overs.
In an exclusive interview with PakPassion.net, Mukhtar reminisced about his days as a schoolboy aspiring to play cricket professionally, his experience at the Haier National T20 Cup (2014), being named as one of the top players of that tournament and what he hopes to achieve in the future.
PakPassion.net were granted special permission to view the progress of construction of the Biomechanics facility and also to speak to the Director of Game Development, Haroon Rashid as well as Dr. Sohail Saleem who holds the position of the Senior General Manager Medical & Sports Sciences at the NCA.
In the latest edition of our AUDIO feature, "View from the Pavilion", former Pakistan player Aamir Sohail discusses the Saeed Ajmal situation and wonders why the Coaching staff attached to the Pakistan team did not act to spot and circumvent the crisis.
In summary:
1. Coaching staff should have seen that Ajmal was struggling with his action
2. Selection policies should have ensured that pressure is not solely on Ajmal to take wickets - pressure which resulted in him trying harder to take wickets with a suspect action.
3. Saqlain Mushtaq's presence seems to indicate that PCB has little faith in abilities of Mushtaq Ahmed.
In an exclusive interview with PakPassion.net, Tauseef spoke about his view on the timing of the suspension and questioned the real motives behind ICC’s decision and cast some light on how some English players and media had a role to play in this outcome, whilst also suggesting a way forward for the beleaguered spinner.
Where are the heroes of the future? Where are the legends of this era that little kids will try to emulate when playing cricket on their streets? It seems as though our current lot of players are destined to walk into the sunset mocked, scorned, barely liked and conveniently forgotten. However, as a fan of this beautiful game and one who longs to see the days of glory return I, for one, am still optimistic about our future. All we need is a little more chaos and greatness will follow.
