I've recently had a look at the format of the 2015 World Cup.
14 teams have qualified for this world cup and are divided into two groups of seven
There are 21 matches played in each group (a total of 42 group matches) and from each group- four (more than half of the teams) qualify for quarter finals.
There are then four quarter finals, two semi finals and 1 final.
All together there are 49 matches in the World Cup.......
