Result : Bangladesh won by 8 wickets (with 63 balls remaining) , Pakistan 250 (49.0 ov), Bangladesh 251/2 (39.3 ov)

Toss: Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first

The series already lost, Pakistan were looking for a consolation victory to boost their morale ahead of the T20 and the Test matches. The batting was under increasing pressure to perform and with Saeed Ajmal, Junaid Khan and Mohammad Hafeez making a comeback it was always going to be tough for the visitors.

On a day when Azhar Ali became the first Pakistan captain to score an ODI hundred since June 2010, the fact that Pakistan had now slipped down to 8th position in ICC ODI rankings due to a historic 3-0 thrashing, was the only remarkable fact that people will remember for years to come.

Bangladesh completed a comprehensive 8 wicket victory over what could only be described as a hapless and shell shocked Pakistan team. The day had started well for Pakistan as they won the toss and chose to bat first in the final game of the ODI series. Whilst it was understandable that Saeed Ajmal and Rahat Ali gave way to Zulfiqar Babar and Umar Gul, the exclusion of the ODI Vice Captain Sarfraz Ahmed in favour of ODI debutant Sami Aslam was very surprising.

Sami Aslam, to his credit, did not waste this opportunity and put on a handsome 45 in a 91 run partnership with his opening partner, Azhar Ali. The Pakistan captain continued to impress with the bat and scored an excellent 101 off just 112 balls but his departure at the score of 203 resulted in a collapse of Pakistani proportions. The visitors self-combusted from a commanding 203/3 to an embarrassing 250 in 49 overs, leaving even the Bangladeshi cricketers wondering if Christmas had come early.

As expected and as has been the pattern on this tour so far, the Bangladesh openers made easy work of Pakistan fast bowlers. In particular, the centurion Soumya Sarkar ( ) played the Pakistan bowling with an arrogance which would have made the great Viv Richards blush! Whilst Pakistan dropped 3 catches in their attempt to restrict the home side, the Pakistan bowlers never looked threatening. Junaid Khan did pick two wickets but the quality associated with a team known for its bowling prowess looked distinctly toothless.

The end came in 39.3 overs – an embarrassing and historic 3-0 defeat at the hands of a team which appears supremely confident in itself. Pakistan now look to the only T20I game on 24th April for some solace where the familiar face of Shahid Afridi may well provide spark to this tour for the visitors who will need more than just empty words to pick themselves up.
