Result : Pakistan win 2nd Test Match by 328 runs and take series 1-0

Scores: Pakistan 557/8d & 195/6d, Bangladesh 203 & 221/10 (56.5 ov)

Bangladesh started day 4 of the 2nd Test with a mountain to climb. They were 63/1 and needed a massive 487 to win but there were some hopes of a Khulna style counterattack. Pakistan bowlers had different ideas and lead ably by Misbah-ul-Haq they saw to it that no such fairy tale would not be possible for Bangladesh.

By lunch time, Pakistan bowlers had picked up four more wickets leaving the home-side’s hopes of a miraculous escape in tatters. Imran Khan opened the flood gates with 2 important wickets of the danger man in Tamim and Mahmudullah, whilst Yasir Shah and Mohammad Hafeez then moved in to remove Shakib and Mushfiqur, leaving Bangladesh struggling on 134/5.

The story for Bangladesh did not get any better after tea as a steady procession of batsmen saw Pakistan stride towards a well-deserved 328 run victory, with a day to spare. Apart from a final 44 run flourish by Shuvagata Hom and Mohammad Shahid, there wasn’t much to cheer for on the 4th day for the home supporters. Pakistan thus winning the Test Series 1-0.

A brilliant 4 wicket haul by Yasir Shah and excellent contributions by Imran Khan, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Hafeez and Junaid Khan proved too much to handle for the Bangladesh line up but the Pakistan batsmen’s contributions throughout this match and Test series, deserve praise as well.

To many this was an expected outcome of the Test series but those who have followed the complete series would agree that the final result required some hard work by Pakistan and for that their captain and team must be congratulated.
