Azhar Ali and Ahmed Shehzad lead Pakistan fightback to keep them in the game.

Overnight score: Pakistan 138 , Sri Lanka 304-9

By PakPassion Staff (27th June, 2015)

The match started 30 minutes late due to rain and Pakistan made sure they get the last Sri Lankan wicket early. Yasir Shah got Chameera to finish with figures of 6-96 as the home team were all out for 315 and took a lead of 177 runs.

The Pakistani openers had a huge task on their plate, but got off to the worst possible start as Hafeez was caught at first slip as he poked at a tame delivery from Mathews. Ahmed Shehzad and Azhar then dug in , kept the good deliveries out and survived the whole session taking Pakistan to 62-1 at Lunch with 115 runs behind.

Pakistan had a brilliant second session courtesy Azhar Ali and Ahmed Shehzad who were involved in a century stand and contributed 67 runs without getting troubled too much.

Straight after Lunch Ahmed Shehzad lost his wicket first ball playing a pull from outside off stump to give an easy catch to Dinesh Chandimal for 69. Pakistan still had a long way to go from here as Younis Khan walked in to join Azhar Ali. Younis looked busy in the middle by picking up singles and regular boundaries as Azhar also reached his 20th fifty. Pakistan were set on 171-2 until umpires called play off for bad light. There was no further play possible on Day 3 and Pakistan still have a lot of work to do and set a sizable target for Sri Lanka to chase.
