A day of mixed fortunes but England possibly the happier side after bowling Pakistan out for 234.

Toss: Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first

Teams:

Pakistan 1 Mohammad Hafeez, 2 Azhar Ali, 3 Shoaib Malik, 4 Younis Khan, 5 Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), 6 Asad Shafiq, 7 Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), 8 Wahab Riaz, 9 Zulfiqar Babar, 10 Yasir Shah, 11 Rahat Ali

England 1 Alastair Cook (capt), 2 Moeen Ali, 3 Ian Bell, 4 Joe Root, 5 James Taylor, 6 Jonny Bairstow (wk), 7 Ben Stokes, 8 Samit Patel, 9 Adil Rashid, 10 Stuart Broad, 11 James Anderson

First Session: Misbah won his 3rd toss of the series and once again chose to bat on what looked like a decent track. Azhar Ali and Rahat Ali replaced Shan Masood and Imran Khan, will England brought in James Taylor and Samit Patel for Jos Buttler and Mark Wood.

Azhar's return to the side, as an opener, didn't go well as Anderson found his outside edge and he was dismissed for a duck. Broad and Anderson bowled a miserly opening spell with few scoring opportunities for Malik and Hafeez, but the pair were able to keep their wickets in tact. Spin was brought on early and it was Moeen Ali that took the next wicket, aggression from Hafeez proving his downfall as a top edge was caught at mid wicket.

At lunch, Pakistan had reached a precarious 87/2 with Malik and Younis at the crease.

Second Session: Malik has an LBW decision overturned on review, but not long after Broad found his outside edge to leave Pakistan struggling on 88/3. Broad then really applied the squeeze, bowling consecutive maidens to Younis Khan which ultimately led to the batsman missing an Anderson full toss and being pinned LBW.

A partnership was required but Shafiq's run of excellent form ended when Samit Patel found his outside edge and taken smartly by Bairstow. This brought Sarfraz to the crease and he and Misbah set about repairing the damage. They saw out the rest of the session without alarm but Pakistan were still in some bother at 148/5.

Third Session: Sarfraz pushed the score along while Misbah was resolute in defence against some tight bowling, while he also attacked the spinners when given the opportunity. The pair put on 50 before a poor shot from Sarfraz led to his downfall as he holed out to mid wicket off Moeen.

Pakistan's tail has been very poor this series and today was no different. Wahab was bowled by Samit for a duck before a Misbah counter-attack took him past 50. He didn't get much support though as the new ball did for Yasir Shah, and then Misbah himself nicked Anderson to slip. Rahat Ali didn't last long and Pakistan were dismissed for a disappointing 234.

Cook and Moeen saw off 2 overs at the end of the day to leave England 4-0 at the close.

Summary: An outstanding day for England. Broad and Anderson's combined figures of 6-30 were incredible after the visitors lost the toss. Pakistan once again have Misbah to thank for reaching the total they did, but one feels that England are well and truly in the driving seat. The only silver lining for Pakistan is that this wicket is showing signs of turn already, so Yasir Shah and Zulfiqar Babar should cause plent of problems. Whether or not they have enough runs to play with is another matter.
